I returned my SPV end of november. Still not got a complete refund tho :/ still waiting for the upgrade fee to be refunded ... lol (why o why didnt i buy it from a shop).

Went back to my Nok 8310 and... hey, a phone that does what a phone is supposed to do, even if it does look very dated and is incredibly boring.

Not really looked back tho, dont miss the SPV, maybe because I have my eye on the P800 which looks a better phone anyway.

The SPV was good on paper, but the push to be first out there with a Smartphone O/S powered phone has done the SPV no good at all.

For those that say they dont have problems with it I can only assume you dont use it much. The hardware/software is the same and it's mainly the software that is at fault.

I wish Eric would hurry up with the P800 :D

I hope it's not available on orange also, finally give me a real reason to put the fingers up @ orange who suck as much as the SPV (sigh, out of the frying pan into the fire no doubt).

Just my opinion (without prejudice of course).

So, if you want to be completely happy with you SPV, send it back like I did :(

Lemme guess... You didn't like it? :D P800 is being tested on Orange at the mo - looks like certification's there as well. Boo. Hiss. Its got the same brick-type of shape/size as a 7650 though, so be warned! Also it looks like being £100-£200 more expensive than an spv. Although seeing as its more of a pda than a phone, fair enough..

I'm pretty much completely happy with mine - guess I'm just a lucky lad. Still, it'll do me for a year until the next-gen smartphones come out - yay upgrading..

I'm not holding my breath with the Eric though,

They joined sony in a bid to keep their head above water and there not doing very well.

The company I work for is on a downward spiral as we make

encloseures and backplanes for their communication systems.

Main reason being is that they are cancelling orders left right and centre

because they have no money.

So back to the start of post what would the support be like

or is Sony attempting a MS v Sendo attitude?

Only question. Why do you come here telling you are very happy not having an spv ?? What can i say CONGARATS TO YOU!!

And if you weren't happy with the SPV and think its so bad you had to send it back, why are you still reading/ posting on an SPV forum... is it becuase you love these guys (and gals) so much?

Didnt Ericcson spend a fortune developing new phones, which didnt offer huge amounts of extra features, and therefore noone then bought because they were perfectly happy with the phones they had already? :D only prob with p800 is the price (and certification). the new samsung smartphnoe (and the 3G phones) all look well nice

If you think the P800 will be released without problems your dreaming. You can test and test hardware and software but the true test is when it's released on the public.

And if the general public can find a way to break, rubbish, criticise or ridicule someone or something you can bet they will do it.

The SPV gets even more criticism cus it's Orange & MS, not the most popular international companies me thinks.

Good luck with your 8310. You must have a good one, cus I work in a mobile phone shop and 1 in 3 always come back with software problems i.e.

and you can find plenty more forums with 8310 probs.

At the end of the day we are all different and have different needs, I for one use the phone a lot for phoning, texting, internet, MSN, e-mail, video and MP3 player, all work fine for me. But then I work in the industry and I know the probs we get with other phones so I'm kinda less critical than most.

Cheers, Shire

Seriously tho, it is almost as if the SPV had no testing at all!

I found 99% of the SPVs problems in a week of moderate usage.

I would REALLY like to know what testing O/MS did do!

I reaaally think their test policy consisted of 'cut the price, techy people will have immense demand, bug fix it for us'. Some of those niggles are just stupid and can be found out in about 2 seconds. Grr.

MS has always made "buggy" software though, hense the countly service packs on hotfixes available for various flavours of windows. They do however made very good hardware imho. Maybe they should have made the spv :D

I agree on the ms hardware, it is great qaulity, pitty bout the software though? I am on my 3rd spv now as the first 2 were a little troublesome? but this 3rd one is a gem, no major problems as yet other than the normal bugs? it does what i want? as for orange? well i find them to be very good? try contacting o2 or vodaphone and getting a response? there call centres are rubbish? i have had every isuue i found with orange resolved to my satisfaction and customer support always answer the phone or get back to you with problems? only major issues i have had is with orange.net! and i refuse to pay 50p per minute for a muppet to tell you we have server problems? i know that i want to know when it will be fixed and working!!!!!!

overall i am quite happy with my spv and orange? especially as we are all beta testers? it could have been worse?

tricky

Because I was already here when I had an SPV

Nah, although I am sure you are all lovely people, becauce when I got my SPV I setup a site that was going to be an SPV info resource ... and much as I dont miss my SPV that site is still my home page :/ ... well gotta get some use out of the domains I registered pointing at it dont I ... doh!

Maybe it's an orange trait? Yes, the 8310 did have software problems, I am on my third. I managed to get an updated one end of august (ahead of official release cos I kicked up a stink) and have not had any of the problems I had previously experienced. I still occasionaly have to power it off and on to get signal back however so it is not perfect (no product that contains software will ever be perfect).

Rather than respond to individual replies (got bored of that) ill make some more general comments.

1. I am not anti-Microsoft, in fact I am pro Microsoft (queue alternate set of flames )

2. I have become anti-Orange because of what they have become. I have been an orange customer for a very long time, 5+ years ... pre nok 710 (so long ago I cna't even remember the phone).

3. There is a difference between a phone that has problems but is fit for purpose (the 7310 i would put into that category) and a phone that is quite honestly unfit for most purposes it was intended for, INCLUDING being a phone.

4. The final straw for me and the SPV was it's inability to hang up a call when you pressed the hang up key. Orange denied there was such a fault and I bet if you spoke to them now, they would still deny it. Strange that because many people are reporting the same problem.

5. I believe a product should work when it is released. However share holders and prophit margins force companies to cut corners to maximize prophits and one of those corners is cutting short the testing period (which is a pure cost) and letting the general public test it instead (free testing) because contracts and such mean that most punter's will just live with the problems and wont see what is actually going on.

6. The Nok 8310 suffered to a much lesser degree IMO from no 5, probably because it was Nok releasing it not Orange.

7. MS do write buggy software, but no more so that most other software vendors, it's just MS bugs are more publicised. All software is buggy to some degree. IBM are no better than MS believe me, I have used their O/S's (AIX) and it's one of the more buggy O/S's I have had to use.

8. Maybe the Eric with be as bad, or worse than the SPV. I will again be disappointed and again be vocal about it and my opinions.

9. BTW (you may know this already) it is possible to remove certification from the SPV with a hard reset and get the SDK working. Check my website news section for a link to the forum with the info if you are interested and it's not already been duplicted here.

10. I think I responded to more points than were raised... oh well, never mind :?

11. I came to these forums to make this post cos these are great forums. Are there some better ones?

12. Is this a pro-SPV only forum?

p800 dosnt appeal to me atall,

1) Its a brick

2) Certification still their

3) Built in camera, meaning no possiblity for upgrade

4) Blatently gonna destroy a touch screen within weeks of normal phone use

5) Nothing to sugest that their wont be bugs in it (unless they learned from SPV)

6) Not microsoft, unlike most i like the way i DONT have to learn a totally new operating system

7) By the time the p800 comes out HOPEFULLY an update will sort out most of our problems

8) No one has a p800 yet and it hasnt been real world tested SPV has been out for 3 mounths we know the issues, p800 is a totally new ball game.

Never had loads of these problems my hang up button always hung up a call weird!

Is this a pro-SPV forumn? Silly question really most people who sent theirs back sent it back and then left the forumn leaving TADA - people who like it!

Oh and 8310 has had TONS of problems the biggest seems to be complete lock down when trying to send a text, completely unacceptable, my mates on his thrid, and this phone has been about for AGES!
