Guest stripey Posted January 15, 2003 Report Posted January 15, 2003 about to receive a SPV but a little concerned about signal strength - how is it likely to compare with my current Sony J70? Thats pretty good everywhere (except my local pub - but thats a GOOD thing)
Guest strathclydezero Posted January 15, 2003 Report Posted January 15, 2003 Mine has proved favourable next to my old Sony J5, although the screen shows less bars it works with a weaker signal.
Guest magic_peanuts Posted January 15, 2003 Report Posted January 15, 2003 My fiance used to have a J70, which I used occasionally with no problems in Leicester. As most posts on signal strength say, there genreally isn't a aproblem although unlike most other phones, a 1 bar signal is more than good enough for a decent call or data transmission
Guest spacemonkey Posted January 15, 2003 Report Posted January 15, 2003 As has been mentioned often in other threads on this topic, the signal indicator (number of bars) in the SPV is all messed up and can't be trusted. The phone however seems to work everywhere that I'd expect a phone to work and I haven't had cutouts in calls or anything. Just ignore the signal strength indicator.
Guest Walle Posted January 15, 2003 Report Posted January 15, 2003 I have experiensed significant lower signal level on my SPV than on my old Nokia 7550. When I complained about this - it turns out that it aperantly matters wherher the SIM-card is a new one. I transfered the SIM-card from my 7750 to SPV, and then this led to the lower signal level. I have now gotten a so-called "Swap-card" (a new Sim-card with the old number) and this should improve on recieption.

Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted January 15, 2003 Report Posted January 15, 2003 I rarely have more than 2 bars on my phone, and i would have to agree with spacemonkey as to not trusting it. Travelling at the weekend, upstairs at Birmingham new street station outbound i had 1-2 bars, however on my way back the next day it was at 3-4. I've not had any problems anywhere with my phone so i also tend ot ignore the signal monitor...
Guest Walle Posted January 15, 2003 Report Posted January 15, 2003 In the Greater Copenhagen area I often have no bars on the indicator. Then I'm unable to make or recieve any call's
Guest elementalist Posted January 15, 2003 Report Posted January 15, 2003 The indicator is crap, yep, but the phone seems to work well with any level indicated. I do find the GPRS doesn't work well (or at all) when the indicator is low.
Guest strathclydezero Posted January 15, 2003 Report Posted January 15, 2003 I regularly use GPRS with just one bar.
