Guest Wizard Posted January 15, 2003 Report Posted January 15, 2003 I find when I use Messenger on my SPV that people don't know I am connected using my mobile. So they send me URLs I can't open and I try to have conversations that just aren't practical when I'm on my mobile. How can I communicate to people that I am signed in on my mobile? Wizard
Guest Emad Posted January 15, 2003 Report Posted January 15, 2003 You can change your sign-in name to (mobile), or your status to 'on the phone' ;)
Guest Wizard Posted January 15, 2003 Report Posted January 15, 2003 I tried changing my sign-in name, bu it stores it on the central server so when I sit at my PC it says "on the phone" which is rather unhelpful. I don't want to change my signin name every time I sign in. What do you mean by "set status to 'on the phone'"? I haven't seen an option to do that. Wizard
Guest Roamer Posted January 15, 2003 Report Posted January 15, 2003 Wizard - On the main msn screen that shows all your contacts, highlight you at the top, and click action, then you can change your online status to 'On The Phone' ;)
Guest Wizard Posted January 15, 2003 Report Posted January 15, 2003 Ah, ok. I tried using the menu from there, but no no joy. Rather unintuitive, but good to know the option is there. Shame there isn't an "Online (mobile)". Microsoft, are you listening? ;) On The Phone will be interpreted by my contacts as "he's busy, don't talk to him" whereas "Online (mobile)" would more likely be interpreted as "He's online and I can talk to him but only has a dicky little keyboard so don't ask him to quote the entire Bill of Human Rights" Wizard
Guest someone Posted January 16, 2003 Report Posted January 16, 2003 Hey Why don't you create a new Hormail account, for example [email protected] and put the buddies who you wanna chat with on your SPV at your new list? They can see directly your are online using your SPV.
Guest Wizard Posted January 16, 2003 Report Posted January 16, 2003 I don't want to have to maintain two lists of contacts. Getting them into the new account would be tedious, and keeping it updated would be tedious too. I agree it would work, but I think making some small alternations to Messenger would make more sense. Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted January 16, 2003 Report Posted January 16, 2003 1) You can export contact lists to a single file then reimport them, i have a separate account from my main pc one for my laptop and phone 2) Add a "My text" entry as something along the lines of "I'm on my mobile atm, so can't reply too quickely".
