Guest Posted May 3, 2004 Report Posted May 3, 2004 Hi all, Just wondered if anyone had tried this, and if it will work. If I get an XDA II, would I be able to use another mobile phone as the modem, via bluetooth, as you would on a normal PPC? This would be so I could use my work SIM in another phone, when I needed to use it for work email etc., and use the internal SIM when I was doing my own stuff. Also, I have seen (though now I'm not sure where), a bluetooth modem that just plugs into a phone line. Would it be possible to use this to get online, rather than looking into WiFi to the computer, or would it be possible to use the computers modem via bluetooth from the XDA II. Thanks for any replies, just thinking through the options before I go and get one. Thanks all, Pete.
Guest Twain Posted May 5, 2004 Report Posted May 5, 2004 Not sure for definate but i'd assume you can use a seperate phone for the modem, when i've paired my xda2 with other phones bluetooth tools says it supports modem, com port and headset profile but i haven't actually tried them, this also means you can use the smaller handset as a sort of handsfree if you dont wanna hold the xda2 to your head as you do get some funny looks! With regards to the pc i have a bluetooth dongle, simply sync over bluetooth using activesync and it automatically uses the passthrough connection so you can browse on the net using you pcs connection, although is limited to 10m range.
Guest Posted May 5, 2004 Report Posted May 5, 2004 Thanks for that, sounds interesting about using another handset to do the talking. Now all I need is for the local O2 shop to get some in stock!!

Yeah, I've been using my XDA II (Qtek 2020 actually, but it's the same device) like this. So, I am using a Nokia 7600 (HORROR) as a 3G bluetooth modem for the Qtek 2020 when I want to use 3G, otherwise I just use the builtin GPRS. Works like a charm. Kim Nyberg
