Guest reubkov Posted December 30, 2004 Report Posted December 30, 2004 For years I've been using a Palm device and have setup Outlook to user sub-folders in the contacts section. Using 3rd-party sync software called PocketMiror, I have been able to sync Outlook with my Palm unit and the sub-folders transfer perfectly. I just bought an Audiovox SMT5600 with ActiveSync and discovered that, from the looks of things, it does not recognize subfolders in the Contacts section, only inbox subfolders. Since I still use my Palm unit as my primary PDA, I don't want to get rid of my subfolders. Is there ANY way to get ActiveSync - or a third-party substitute - to recognize my Contacts sub-folders? MUCH thanks, reubkov
Guest SinisterJunkie Posted December 30, 2004 Report Posted December 30, 2004 There maybe a way to get folders to sync, but I am not sure. The way around this that I found when I made the switch to the MS Smartphone platform is to assign categories to your contact (just like your seperate folders) and then move all the contacts into the same contacts folder. In Outlook create seperate views than filter based on the category. Now I can filter in Oulook and on my phone. Hope this helps.
Guest reubkov Posted December 30, 2004 Report Posted December 30, 2004 In Outlook create separate views than filter based on the category. Thank you for your help. I assigned categories to all of my contacts and moved then to the main folder, but I'm not sure how to create separate views in Outlook and then filter based on category. I'm used to the "Address Cards" view, but none of the various pre-defined views allows me to sort by category. The only way I've found that works is to use the "By Category" view, but I'm not very happy with that layout. How did you create separate views and then filter based on category? Much thanks, again, reubkov
Guest Socrates Posted December 31, 2004 Report Posted December 31, 2004 (edited) What about contacts in Public Folders on an Exchange server? I would think that someone would come up witha third party sync to do that. You could do it on Palm with the DataViz software. For many business people not syncing sub folders or public folders could be a deal breaker. Edited December 31, 2004 by Socrates
Guest iainmann Posted February 5, 2005 Report Posted February 5, 2005 There's a useful Outlook add-on programme called Pocket Contact Synchronizer 1.2 that gives a solution to syncing Outlook contacts sub-folders with windows mobile and pocket pc devices. It works with Outlook 2000 and 2002. Here's the link:Microsoft
