Guest sidebp Posted December 30, 2004 Report Posted December 30, 2004 Hi Guys/Gals, Firstly, just wanted to say hello to everyone (and wish them a happy New Year) - I'm new to this forum but have already found plenty of useful information: hope I can contribute something at some point! I know this has been asked a million times before (Ive searched the board but couldnt find answers to all my questions) so I thought I'd start a new thread which may help others thinking of buying their first smartphone/C500! Could anyone anser these questions to put my mind at rest before I part with the hard earned!? Thanks in advance! 1. I wish to buy a C500 from the modaco shop on orange PAYG (£149.99). However like many others I wish to use my existing O2 Contract SIM (Orange wont match my tariff! :) ). Would this be a big problem to achieve? To get this to work I understand I will need to do the following: - Get the phone network unlocked? Where would anyone recommend/what sort of price am I looking at? - Get the phone application unlocked?? Is this something that can only be done by Orange or can I get an unlock from a third party like the network unlock? Again, any ideas where/what sort of price I'm looking at? 2. Not a biggy, but is it possible to remove the orange logo without damaging the phone? Someone suggested a sugar cube?! 3. Obviously the phone was designed to operate on the orange network hence there seem to be a lot of the orange specific menu items - is it possible to hide/remove these (as I wont be able to use them on O2). Many Thanks for any pointers, appreciated! Happy New Year to all! Paul
Guest Confucious Posted December 30, 2004 Report Posted December 30, 2004 (edited) 1) To network unlock your phone you could try unlockitnow who will do it for $75 or you could ude http://www.c500-unlock.com/ who were the first (and best) and charge £20) application unlocking is free and done via the orange website (I haven't got the link to hand) even if you're on another network. 2) Sugar cube does, apparently work 3) you can edit the menus as you please. HTH PS - welcome to the forum! Edited December 30, 2004 by Confucious
Guest sidebp Posted December 30, 2004 Report Posted December 30, 2004 Many thanks for the reply Confucious. Just went to order then noticed the Orange Shops are doing them for £139.99 and I wouldnt have to pay postage - just got to weigh up if its worth the hassle of shopping centres at this time of year! Anyone got any views on which mini-sd is the best - I presume like most flash memory these days theyre all much of a muchness?
Guest Disco Stu Posted December 30, 2004 Report Posted December 30, 2004 I use a Kingston from the MoDaCo shop and it works perfectly. SanDisk is another brand I trust.
Guest sidebp Posted December 30, 2004 Report Posted December 30, 2004 Thanks Stu! Just phoned my local Orange shop and they have them in stock - price is £149.99 and you get a £10 discount (making it £139.99) if you bring in an old handset... ...best get in the car! I use a Kingston from the MoDaCo shop and it works perfectly. SanDisk is another brand I trust. <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Guest sidebp Posted December 30, 2004 Report Posted December 30, 2004 Thanks to both for your help - now the proud owner of a C500 on O2! Just need to application unlock the phone and I'm in business! Top Stuff! Look forwarding to speaking again. Paul
