Help! My E100 is spending my money!

Hello! I'm hoping someone can help! Without me changing any of the settings (unless I did it in my sleep!) my E100 keeps almost continuously trying to make data connections without me asking it to. I do not have internet access set up on my phone and therefore the phone can't actually connect (and brings up the message - 'Unable to make call' with the banner 'Data Connection') but the simple act of trying to connect is costing me money. I woke up last Wednesday to discover that my phone had spent £10 (clearing my account) trying to make a data connection. That evening my housemate stopped my phone trying to make data connections by connecting it to our broadband and I, believing the problem solved, out of necessity put £30 of credit on my phone. The following morning my phone was trying to make data connections again and had spent the £30 odd I had put on there the night before. I have tried changing numerous settings on the phone but nothing has worked. I am currently having to use my old Nokia phone, except for when I need something on my SPV, which is really inconvenient!! When the SPV tries to make a data connection I can stop it by hanging up (and if I notice it trying to make a connection quick enough and hang up it doesn't cost me anything) but a few moments later it will try again without me asking it to. Any theories?! I hope so!

My situation is not helped by the fact that since last Thursday I have been in a different county to both my my SPV user manual and my housemate! Plus I am using an O2 tarif on a sim-free phone so I'm not sure Orange will be very interested in helping me!

Have you set up your email to check automatically at regular intervals ?

Strange - with data connections you normally only pay for data transfered NOT just for connecting, so if no connection is made then no charges are incurred. To eat £30 you must be transfering a few meg of data even at the ridiculous rates charged on PAYG.

The obvious suspect, as Stu says, is email, failing thta have you installed any new oprogrames that are trying to download updates?

Try going to Start -> Settings -> More -> Data Conections and changing everything away from GPRS - see if that helps.

Let us know how you get on.

Good luck.
