Guest gadgetluva Posted December 31, 2004 Report Posted December 31, 2004 I have an unusual quirk with my smartphone. I am able to send/recieve emails from my gmail account, but it won't pick up anything that was already downloaded previously. In addition, the mail that HAS been downloaded will be deleted automatically the next time i perform a send/receive. Strange problem, it could be something simple, but I can't find anything in the account settings that would be causing it.
Guest Confucious Posted December 31, 2004 Report Posted December 31, 2004 It is standard behaviour for all email accounts. If you sync your outlook to your phone all email will be there, under your GMail account you will only see new mail, it's functioning as designed. HTH

HTH <{POST_SNAPBACK}> well I don't sync my mail with activesync, I do it over GPRS. I have the unlimited T-Mobile GPRS for 19.99, so I never have to worry about data charges, so I check my mail frequently. Is this the behavior of POP mail? B/c my other account is setup for IMAP4 access.
Guest Confucious Posted December 31, 2004 Report Posted December 31, 2004 Yup, looks like MS assume you omnly use the phone for mobile access and will sync your POP3 accounts with Outlook the rest of the time. Sorry. BTW unlimted in the UK costs over £88/month

HTH <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Sorry, but are you sure about that?? This isn't how my hotmail or personal email acts when I retrieve them using pop on my smartphone, however I have the same problem with gmail as described above. It doesn't act consistent for me between gmail and my other pop accounts I access using my Voyager smartphone.
Guest Confucious Posted January 1, 2005 Report Posted January 1, 2005 I thought I was sure :) It's certainly how it behaves with the 3 other POP3 accounts that I have set up and others have confirmed that that is how it operates for them. I'm using a C500 (Typhoon). How does it work on your phone? Have you changed any settings from default (not that I can see any to change)? What are you using to access your Hotmail BTW?
Guest yoos Posted January 1, 2005 Report Posted January 1, 2005 I'm using the http://www.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=54779>MoDaCo Plus benefit for retreiving hotmail via pop and my personal email is from a website domain I own. If I retreive messages on these two addresses it will get all messages. If I read the messages and retreive them again I will get new messages and the read messages will remain on my phone until I delete them on either my phone or the net. For Gmail it will not keep any of the emails I've previously downloaded when I retreive messages again (regardless if they were read or not). I don't think I have anything special set...
Guest Confucious Posted January 1, 2005 Report Posted January 1, 2005 Having just joined Plus the hotmail does indeed work the way yiou say (good isn't it) but the domains I own (but don't administer) and other email addresses all behave as GMail does - do you run your own mailservers?
Guest yoos Posted January 1, 2005 Report Posted January 1, 2005 do you run your own mailservers? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Nope, I just use the email service that is provided to me by my internet hosting company (www.aletia.com)
