Guest Socrates Posted December 31, 2004 Report Posted December 31, 2004 (edited) Have an SMT5600 and the "home" network is ATT. Roaming on Cingular is now free obviously, and the phone will automatically switch from ATT to Cingular... but I've noticed that it only switches SOMETIMES. There are a couple of places I have been the last few days where the phone can sense an ATT antena but the signal is so weak that it can't actually use that antena, but it does NOT switch to Cingular on its own. I figure this is a normal feature to try to avoid roaming if there is an antenna anywhere within detectable range. If I switch it manually I can get 3 or 4 bars in some cases. It would be nice if I could set up one or two of the quick speed dial keys or a voice tag to switch networks. Anyone know of a way to do that? Edited December 31, 2004 by Socrates
Guest Socrates Posted January 13, 2005 Report Posted January 13, 2005 Sorry to bump this, but I still need to find a solution. Thanks.
Guest wolfe Posted January 13, 2005 Report Posted January 13, 2005 Hello Socrates, There are two fairly simple things you can do to help yourself in these situations: (1) Change the ordering of preferred networks such that you move the Rogers AT&T (302720) network down below the Cingular networks (310150 / 310170) on your Preferred Networks listing. You can do this by going into Start | Settings | 1. Phone | 8. Networks | Menu soft key | 3 Preferred Networks. I think if you move the Cingular networks up above the "Rogers AT&T (302720)" network, you should latch onto Cingular networks first. Please be aware that you have to be within your home network's radio signal to change the Preferred Networks list. (2) Turn Flight Mode on and off again - this will force a new network search, and the AT&T network signal strength should be (note the SHOULD BE) weak enough to cause the handset to latch onto the Cingular network. Let us know how you get along with these two ideas! Best Regards, John Wolfe [email protected]

Will that cause good signal strength in areas where there it's poor? ie.. inside my house I have poor signal strength in some spots. -icky
Guest Socrates Posted January 14, 2005 Report Posted January 14, 2005 Thanks alot, I will do as suggested and report back after trying it out abit. Anyone have any idea if they will be merging the two sets of antennas into a sigle network? That would certainly solve the problem. Independantly the netowrks are a bit spotty, but added together the coverage is good. Thanks.
Guest Socrates Posted January 15, 2005 Report Posted January 15, 2005 Doesn't work. Going in and out of flight mode resets the preferences list. I assume the pone downloads the list fresh ehenever it reconnects. Darn.
