Guest Zeb Posted December 31, 2004 Report Posted December 31, 2004 Hey Guys, Is removing programs via the "Remove Programs" on the SPV C500 clean? By this I mean if you install something on a PC and then uninstall it you normally find it doesn't uninstall cleanly - Always leaves bits somewhere and never removes some registry keys. Is this the same story on the phone? Or is the phone clean in that when you remove a program it removes EVERYTHING it has put on (Including files, registry keys, and everything else?). Look forward to an answer! Many Thanks! Dan.
Guest squall Posted January 1, 2005 Report Posted January 1, 2005 I would remove via active sync if the program is listed, before removing via the phone. It *should* remove everything although id imagine some reg entries will stay, ie ones which track demo program use etc
Guest BeyondtheTech Posted January 3, 2005 Report Posted January 3, 2005 I've had some experience with this already since I've had a PocketPC since they were first released, and we all know Windows PCs are notorious for leaving things behind after an uninstall. First things first. After uninstalling the program on your Smartphone, if it says something about rebooting the phone to remove any additional remnants, do it. When you're back on the http://www.modaco.com/viewforum.php?f=43>home screen, use File Manager (not any other third-party Explorer-type utility) and navigate to \Storage\windows\AppMgr. You'll see folders of all the programs you ever installed there. Delete the folder of the program you uninstalled. You'll see that third-party folders have issues in deleting these folders and files, but File Manager has no problems with it. Next, check the \Storage\Application Data folder and delete any related folders to the program. If you're not sure, don't delete anything. For example, Connected Bits' Weather application will create a folder called Connected Bits in there, which can be deleted safely after uninstall. Lastly, check the registry using ChrisOn.NET's RegEdit.NET, Smartione (for modifying the registry from your PC), or PHM RegEdit (although it's buggy). You may find entries or folders under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE, and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Apps. That should take care of most of the remants of most programs installed on your Smartphone.

If I do a "http://www.modaco.com/index.php?act=ST&f=1...62&st=0>HARD RESET" then this will remove all of these, right? As in, after a "http://www.modaco.com/index.php?act=ST&f=1...62&st=0>HARD RESET" it would be like the phone is new and such no reminants of programs left at all. The phone will be as if the program was never installed. Is this correct? Many Thanks Dan.
Guest BeyondtheTech Posted January 4, 2005 Report Posted January 4, 2005 Brand spanking new. Just so you know, the infamous cumulative call times that are usually hardcoded into most phones are simply stored in the registry (HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Cumulative...] so if you wipe it out, it's kinda like bringing the odometer back to zero. Of course, no one will believe you if the phone is a bit busted up. :) Hey, You seen to know what you're talking about!!
