Guest Paul [MVP] Posted December 31, 2004 Report Posted December 31, 2004 FINAL TOTAL: £2343.96 + $790.38 This appeal has now finished, thanks for your support! ]I don't think there is a single person that hasn't been touched by the images that are all around us of the death and destruction that has resulted from the Asian Tsunami. Here at MoDaCo, we would like to contribute in our own way to the aid effort that is currently underway. I have decided that for the next week, whenever members sign up to Plus, 100% of the proceeds will be donated to the DEC Tsunami Earthquake Appeal (http://www.dec.org.uk). To contribute and receive your Plus account, please complete the form below. To find out more about Plus, CLICK HERE. At the end of the 1 week period, I will post full details of how much we have donated. Thanks for your support, and our thoughts, of course, go out to all of those affected. Guest idavid Posted January 1, 2005 Report Posted January 1, 2005 a thoroughly worthy cause going here. it is the absolute least i can do to sign up (again), if it's to help these people. in fact i feel a bit guilty benefitting from this donation. so can i be the first to say a massive thankyou to paul and the ModaCo team for making this possible. anyone reading this who hasn't contributed yet (like me) should do. its the absolute least we can do. lets make this week the biggest modaco sign up ever...
Guest mcwarre Posted January 1, 2005 Report Posted January 1, 2005 Well done P. By using DEC they can claim back 28p in every pound from the tax man so the donations go further!
Guest Dr_StrangeTrick Posted January 1, 2005 Report Posted January 1, 2005 (edited) My renewal is not up till some time later this year. As this is for a good cause I decided to renew early (hope it does not cause any problems Paul). Any other existing Plus members want to renew their subscription's early and donate to the appeal :?: Edited January 1, 2005 by Dr_StrangeTrick
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted January 1, 2005 Report Posted January 1, 2005 No problems at all, i'll cancel your old subscription, and it will be replaced by this one. Thanks for your support! P
Guest Confucious Posted January 1, 2005 Report Posted January 1, 2005 (edited) I'm unemployed and can't really afford to join Plus which is why I haven't before and I can't afford to donate as much as I want to the victims of the Tsunami. Thanks paul for giving me the opportunity to kill two penguins with one club :) Edited January 1, 2005 by Confucious
Guest squall Posted January 1, 2005 Report Posted January 1, 2005 good effort paul :) I have signed up again to, however I also had an active membership. Hope that is not a prob :(
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted January 1, 2005 Report Posted January 1, 2005 Will re-sign up now :) I would also like to say all those members who have put my name forward as a reference now and in the past, I will give the referance fee into the fund as well, so that's an extra £1 per reference :(
Guest doyle_am Posted January 1, 2005 Report Posted January 1, 2005 I've just renewed my subscription. :) It's great you're doing this Paul and I just hope more people sign up. Keep up the great work and Happy New Year all!
Guest jackofall Posted January 1, 2005 Report Posted January 1, 2005 Will resign up now :) I would also like to say all those members who have put my name forward as a referance now and in the past, I will give the referance fee into the fund as well :( <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Also resigned up and used you as the refferer awarner :(
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted January 1, 2005 Report Posted January 1, 2005 For those Plus members resigning up to donate, your existing subscriptions will be cancelled, and your new one will start today :) P
Guest squall Posted January 1, 2005 Report Posted January 1, 2005 just to check will our original sign up date still stand (for purposes of places at the meets etc)
Guest clrankin Posted January 1, 2005 Report Posted January 1, 2005 I've been meaning to sign up as a premium member for a while now and just haven't gotten around to it. For such a worthy cause, however, I decided that today was the day to make the effort. May God bless all the folks who were affected by this disasterous event, and provide comfort to those who need it most. I can only hope that my small contribution to this effort will somehow make a difference in helping these nations and their people recover from this tragic natural disaster.
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted January 1, 2005 Report Posted January 1, 2005 I have to say i'm massively impressed with the response so far, well done people :) P
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted January 1, 2005 Report Posted January 1, 2005 As most of you have probably seen, I have sent out an email to make members aware of this offer. I have now had 2 mails back along the lines of the following (this is the whole of the second mail): you should be ashamed of yourself. people like you are ruining the world. I pity you. now go away Am I missing something? P
Guest jackofall Posted January 1, 2005 Report Posted January 1, 2005 Am I missing something? P <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well I must be missing it to :?: as far as I can tell there is nothing wrong in encouraging others to help people less fortunate than themselves
Guest shadamehr Posted January 1, 2005 Report Posted January 1, 2005 As most of you have probably seen, I have sent out an email to make members aware of this offer. I have now had 2 mails back along the lines of the following (this is the whole of the second mail): Am I missing something? P <{POST_SNAPBACK}> If your missing something here Paul, then you share that failing with all of us, as I don't get it either - some people are just so sick... Thanks for a wonderful gesture - especially given all the hassle it means for you cancelling existing member subscriptions for those re-joining - least I could do at this time.
Guest BeerdoGs Posted January 1, 2005 Report Posted January 1, 2005 Well I read it and have just used paypal !
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted January 1, 2005 Report Posted January 1, 2005 I've mailed the guy in question to ask exactly what he means, but I don't really expect a reply. TBH, having sat here activating people all day on new years day and doing a whole load of admin, it's a bit disheartening... P
Guest Disco Stu Posted January 1, 2005 Report Posted January 1, 2005 Hopefully the guy just misread the email as some kind of con. It was pretty obvious where it came from and the text was clear enough, but you know what it's like dealing with spam.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted January 1, 2005 Report Posted January 1, 2005 Will resign up now :) I would also like to say all those members who have put my name forward as a reference now and in the past, I will give the referance fee into the fund as well, so that's an extra £1 per reference :( Because the referee comes from the initial payment but all of the payment is already going to the cause it would mean that Paul would have to cough up the actual referee fee. As I did this without discussion I would still like to donate any fees I have accumulated in the past but all new references for this week in my name will come out of my own pocket up to 100 new signings.
Guest Confucious Posted January 1, 2005 Report Posted January 1, 2005 Paul, The people who replied as per the one you quoted probably thought it was some sort of SPAM Scam, it could even have been an auto reply. What you are doing deserves nothing but praise. Thank you. And Ash as well, thank you too. The victims need all the help they can get - with people like you arround hopefully they'll get it.
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted January 1, 2005 Report Posted January 1, 2005 I would do this through MoDaCo, however i've already done so directly through DEC. Nice one people, and good idea Paul.
Guest martin Posted January 2, 2005 Report Posted January 2, 2005 At last, I've got paypal to work :) It must have been down earlier as it couldn't check my card. I've now signed up again to give my support to the appeal. I've been watching the post tsunami events on the news and I'm still horrified at the great loss of life. I hope that all those affected receive all the help they need to allow them to start rebuilding their lives. Very Sad.
