Guest beersoft Posted January 1, 2005 Report Posted January 1, 2005 (edited) i thought as we are bringing in the sprit of the new year and are general basking in the glory that is the shiny new modaco that there are some things some members (a tiny percentage, probably less than 0.1%) are forgetting, as i have seen the odd request or two for things that are not allowed the simple rules we live by: 1) we like paying for quality software, that includes things that come with hardware that we may or may not already have 2) Being in a non English speaking country doesn't exempt you from buying software 3) not having a credit card isn't an excuse for asking for something you have to pay for, find an adult who will pay for it online for you 4) other operators roms, if you can't download it, it might mean that its not for you, it doesn't want to be asked for 5) here isn't the place to ask for emulator roms, iirc we don't look like a rom site, and i don’t think its on fearlessleaderpauls todo list im 100% sure that everyone who reads this is thinking "duh! Owen we already knew this, what you telling us for you drunken bum!" but keep your eyes open, there are toe rags about everywhere trying to rip-off the hardworking developers and you honest hardworking people i'll shut up now later Owen "dont ask for stuff, a punch in the face often offends" :edit: spellchecking rocks :edit: Edited January 1, 2005 by beersoft
Guest gpcarreon (MVP) Posted January 1, 2005 Report Posted January 1, 2005 Very well said beersoft. =D>
Guest chucky.egg Posted January 1, 2005 Report Posted January 1, 2005 1) we like paying for quality software, that includes things that come with hardware that we may or may not already have I totally agree with buying software, but I couldn't disagree more with liking to buy software that comes with hardware I already have I want TomTom but i already have a GPS and don't want to have to pay for another one I'm not suggesting anybody should use wares, but personally i'm not happy about it... Shouldn't MoDaCo be representing the users as well as the developers?
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted January 1, 2005 Report Posted January 1, 2005 Shouldn't MoDaCo be representing the users as well as the developers? We do as long as it's legal :)
Guest chucky.egg Posted January 1, 2005 Report Posted January 1, 2005 Hmm, yeah OK, but not to the same extent IMO MoDaCo actively tries to stamp out piracy (and rightly so, everyone knows that piracy is selfish and shortsighted - it stops some future development) So why can MoDaCo (the forum) not tell people like TomTom that only supplying their product with a GPS is not what the users want? Perhaps it's down to "us" (those of us that are concerned/interested) to make our opinions known. Maybe "MoDaCo" (the forum) doesn't have a voice with the developers, and it's down to members of the community to make a fuss, and we just happen to use these forums as a means to gather support. At the end of the day it's TomTom's decision how they market their product, but I would like to think that this community (AFAIK the biggest Smartphone community) can influence things. That's what I mean about the imbalance between protecting the developers interests and "protecting" the community.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted January 1, 2005 Report Posted January 1, 2005 So why can MoDaCo (the forum) not tell people like TomTom that only supplying their product with a GPS is not what the users want? I have had long discussions with them in this matter and they not interested in doing a software only package at this time. This has been mentioned in other posts I have made. I have also returned all feedback from members here to software developers including Binarys, TomTom, Tetraedge etc We cannot force them to change their marketing decisions but we can try, sometimes it does make a difference.
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted January 1, 2005 Report Posted January 1, 2005 I too have tried to convince them (TomTom) to do this, to no avail! P
Guest chucky.egg Posted January 1, 2005 Report Posted January 1, 2005 Thanks for the info Ashley & Paul I don't want to hijack this thread any more, so I started a poll - maybe the votes will tell them what people think (which isn't necessarily the same as what I think)
Guest Confucious Posted January 1, 2005 Report Posted January 1, 2005 Does anyone have any pirated software they can give me? Or the keys to their car/house? I don't see why software writers should be paid for what they do - they should work for the love of it like the rest of us :)
Guest MECX Posted January 1, 2005 Report Posted January 1, 2005 /Beersoft blatently still drunk :-D\ Good points well made, i think you should add to your list publishing screen shots on web sites without the software writers permission and slagging off people who make good contributions to the community just for the sake of it. Happy new year all 8)

Now who could that be :-k :( :) :(
