Guest skimber Posted January 1, 2005 Report Posted January 1, 2005 Hi there, My c500 is arriving next week and I want to transfer all my text messages to it from my current e200. I have Jeyo mobile extender for Outlook. I like this application but it does not seem to be capable of transferring messages TO a phone. I have been searching high and low but can't seem to find the solution, not least because this site's http://www.modaco.com/search.php>Search system rejects any words shorter than 4 characters, (eg. SMS!!!) so apologies if this has been asked and answered before. Cheers Simon
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted January 1, 2005 Report Posted January 1, 2005 I do not back up SMS but there are a few apps around SMS2Mail which is free or SMS Cool from Handango
Guest skimber Posted January 2, 2005 Report Posted January 2, 2005 Thanks awarner but neither of those appear to allow you to restore message BACK to the phone. I notice a lot of users who have gone through a number of different smartphone models. I assumed this would be a common requirement for people on here? :) Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Guest Disco Stu Posted January 2, 2005 Report Posted January 2, 2005 Like AWarner I guess, most of us don't consider SMS messages are worth saving. The service is not really intended to be for important messages.
Guest skimber Posted January 3, 2005 Report Posted January 3, 2005 I use SMS for all sorts of things and often have to refer back to old messages. I can't believe I'm the only person who uses them in this way? Somebody back me up here please! I'm just looking for a seamless upgrade from one phone to the other so that i'm not constantly saying "Damn, that was on my old phone!". Failing the existance of suitable software to do it, does anyone know if there is another way? such as transferring particular data files from one phone to the other?
Guest Kaka Posted January 3, 2005 Report Posted January 3, 2005 (edited) :) I have done this before.. For the life of me i cant remember the software... Maybe i still have it at home.. Will look later. It exported the SMS to a .txt file then allowed import back onto new phone. Saved me alot of hassle.. Will check it for ya.. Tho in saying that i got the details of it from here somewhere.. Edited January 3, 2005 by Kaka
Guest skimber Posted January 3, 2005 Report Posted January 3, 2005 Thanks Kaka, that would be a lifesaver!!
Guest Kaka Posted January 4, 2005 Report Posted January 4, 2005 Aint found it yet but have backups on DVD which i have yet to check.. Dont worry. I will find it.. :)
Guest skimber Posted January 4, 2005 Report Posted January 4, 2005 Thanks Kaka. I've found a program called Smartphone Studio which does it, but alas is no good as it truncates any messages over 160 characters long.
Guest Disco Stu Posted January 4, 2005 Report Posted January 4, 2005 Sorry to go on at you, but surely there is no such thing as an SMS that is longer than 160 characters ? Doesn't the software start a new messsage after that and sends them separately ?
Guest skimber Posted January 4, 2005 Report Posted January 4, 2005 Not on modern phones no. I've sent and received messages that must have been around 500 characters or so.
Guest Kaka Posted January 5, 2005 Report Posted January 5, 2005 Smartphone Studio :) Thats it. I know the limitations but i guess we have to live with it.... Soz i couldn't be of any more help..
