Need to make backups in order to experiment...

Hi all,

I just bought an original Orange SPV, it had the Orange 1.3.5 ROM, and it had the Spanish language and T9 (my native language). After reading the forums for a while, I decided to upgrade it to a newer version so I can use MSN Messenger. OK the first post I crossed was recommending to upgrade to the Qtek ROM, I did that but unfortunately it didn't have the spanish language. After that I decided to install the latest Orange 1.6.1.10. OK that was great but also it didn't have Spanish. After reading posts for more hours I realize that for experimenting I should make a backup of the working ROM to an SD. No problem about that but it's just that I can't make it. The canary version is 1.10MV.

I can't use USBTerm or TeraTerm or MTTY or anything, and on the diag screens I don't have any save options. How can I do to make the backup so I try the Smart ROM? (I looked inside the code for the ROM and I see it has spanish texts so it has the language).

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

It was only with the early bootloader that you could make backups.

Do not use the SMART ROM unless you are a Pinoy member as the

ROM will SIM lock your phone to the SMART network.

Great awarner, so let me ask you which ROM would you reccomend me to install, that has spanish and not simlock?????? links?

I have never looked into which ROM is best for Spanish as I can only

speak English (and I'm bad enough at that) Once your phone is SIM

unlocked it will stay that way unless you touch teh SMART rom.

For Spanish it may be worth asking the question in the SPV section of the site.

I have an I-mate ROM image which does have spanish, its header is "TAO CABALLERO -1.50.8.6-8efe88fa". Do you think it's safe to install it?

(I'm fighting to have it with MSN working and in spanish, I believe after all that I'll have a hard time with the software lock...)

I'm in BIG trouble.

I was on the Orange 1.6, and decided to try that I-Mate ROM because I saw that the only problematic ROM is the Smart one because it simlocks the phone.

I started the upgrade for the v1.6 and before clicking on upgrade, I renamed NK.nbf (the 1.6 I already had installed) to NK.bak and placed the NK.nbf from the I-Mate 1.50 on this directory. Started the upgrade and everything ended OK.

Now I have a dead SPV................ It doesn't turn on and it doesn't even charge when I put it on the cradle. Is there anything I could do???????????

PLEASE, PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!

I don't believe it.

I fiddled for a while taking on and off the battery and the SD card and once I got into a Canary 1.07.4 screen. The first time I upgraded, the program shown ORG_FR on the "actual ROM" and that one did have Spanish so I searched google.fr for Orange ROM and on orange.fr this page came up:

I don't understand a thing there but I managed to get this link:

It is v1.6 but ORG_FR. I ran that update and THANK GOD it applied well. When I rebooted the phone the charging light came on again and when I pressed the power button it started to boot!!!!!!!!

And it ended booting, and did autoconfig to spanish!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And it did not simlock!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And with No Warez in a moment it was application unlocked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As you might believe, I'm happy.

I'll go to bed to sleep like an angel now :)
