Hiya

Im new to the site, and finding it really useful.

I got the orange c500 the other day, and think its pretty cool. I've been playing duke3d all day:)

What i want to know is if it is possible to view websites/receive email without using gprs.

Can you simply add a normal dialup such as the one found here:

http://adial.co.uk/

I have added this information but i get the message 'cannot place call'

Can some one help me?, please make answers simple :)

Yes you can. Or via your existing connection via bluetooth.

then why is it giving me this error message. Do i need to enable data calls or something?

The error message "cannot place call" is not enough... need more details.

Did you put the DNS details?

well i entered the information from the adial site (there was no option for the dns settings)

When i open internet explorer and select a favorite it says 'connecting...' then 'ERROR Unable to place call'

where would i need to enter the dns settings?

im sure its something basic that im missing :-(

Odd... sorry can't help any further as I don't use dialup, just GPRS.

hmmm, thanks anyway.

I have been reading all the posts in the articles section about different configurations. But none of them seem to answer my question. There must be someone who has their c500 set-up to only use dialup for internet and wap and email.

Please help me..

I was using dial-up for a few days, although the speed is really lousy on a C500 (the modem only works at 9,600 kbs). However, after checking my account it showed an extra charge of 30$. Upon calling Orange, I was told this is still considered a data call and is charged 0.15$ a minute, so beware!

Why do you want to do this? As pauledmond says, it is slow and expensive.

Have you just tried dialing an ISP and connecting?

Im guessing that data calls are not enabled on my phone, thats why it won't place the call.

I had the same problem with my C500 after I had to perform a hard reset. After numerous calls with Orange CS, most of whom were adamant the the C500 is a GPRS only phone, I finally got a replacement handset which I now use to dial up to the internet.

I agree with the comments about it being slow, but when you line rental includes 50 mins a day of calls that can be used for data calls, you put up with it!!!

Just so long as you're sure your 50 mins DOES include data. Most plans are voice only for inclusive minutes but if yours includes data then you might as well use it :D

Been on Everyday 50 for 3 years now and to this date it has always included data calls. One reason for never willingly giving up the tarriff!!!

50p a day line rental with additional dial up minutes charged at 1p a minute.

Calls to other networks and calls outside the inclusive minutes (Orange & national) are about average.

It was discontinued some time ago, about the same time Your Plan came out
