Guest Gism0 Posted January 5, 2005 Report Posted January 5, 2005 (edited) This is really odd. When I first got this phone, I could press the back button to exit programs, and if i wanted to exit everything, i could just press it a few times. Recently I had to do a hard reset to fix my volume button, which stopped working, and now programs don't seem to quit anymore! After a days use, i'll try to use the camera or something and it'll tell me i'm out of memory, so I go check the task manager and it's full of programs, i have to manually kill them :( Any ideas? phone is an Orange SPV C500, running the latest orange update as far as i can tell (4.1.1.4) edit: wow that keyword thing really messed up the title of this topic :( edit: thanks to whoever fixed it :) Edited January 6, 2005 by squall
Guest Disco Stu Posted January 5, 2005 Report Posted January 5, 2005 There's the Free Memory application, or you could use Xbar
Guest Gism0 Posted January 6, 2005 Report Posted January 6, 2005 But it's surely a bug or something that the programs don't ever quit?
Guest Confucious Posted January 6, 2005 Report Posted January 6, 2005 Programs have never quit in windows on Smartphones or PPCs. The oS is designed to manage the memory which is why there is no exit option on mostr s/ware (according to MS there shouldn't be one on ANY s/ware) Pressing the back button wiill get you to the homescreen but not exit a program, why are you worried about it? It is functioning as designed.

It did it before, and now I keep running out of memory after using more than 4 different programs, it doesn't let me take pictures because of lack of memory! using a program to free memory or manually killing the programs is a work-around, definatly not normal behaviour
Guest ga!nusha Posted January 9, 2005 Report Posted January 9, 2005 the phone is multitasking...that's the ideea...to have more programs working at one time....u don't have to worry...just remember to close any progs that you don't wanna use anymore....
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted January 9, 2005 Report Posted January 9, 2005 Pressing back will not exit an application but put it into the background. This has always happened since the first SPV. Only applications that have an exit option or using Task manager will properly end a process.

Guest Gism0 Posted January 16, 2005 Report Posted January 16, 2005 okay I see this, but surely randomly running out of ram is a bad thing? It certainly didn't do that before
