Guest hobo Posted January 5, 2005 Report Posted January 5, 2005 Hi all Just got my C500 today. Loaded all my contacts etc. and now wondering if there are any "must have" apps which I should have on? I assume I gotta do an applications unlock my phone to install games etc. if they haven't been signed. Also, has anyone else found this but I found the call quality from the bundled headphones are rubbish. Cheers all Martin

Guest awarner [MVP] Posted January 5, 2005 Report Posted January 5, 2005 Use the http://www.modaco.com/http://www.modaco.com/search.php>Search.php>http://www.modaco.com/search.php>Search... it has been posted many times. :) http://www.modaco.com/search.php>Search for what exactly? Anyway Welcome to the site :( Two apps that are always top of my list is http://www.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=55367>Smart Explorer and http://www.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=7065>Task Manager from www.binarys.com these two replace the rubbish that is installed on the phone and are always the first things I install on any phone I have.
Guest Confused Stu Posted January 6, 2005 Report Posted January 6, 2005 OK, essential apps? Here's my two-pence worth (please note I have a serious aversion to paying for software, so everything you see here can be downloaded free): GAMES -Picotdrive (Megadrive emulator) Pocket SNES (self explanatory) Wolfenstein3D APPS - PHM Registry Editor (but be sure before you alter anything) Greatbal's playlist Manager 2003 Pocket Control PC (phone can act as mouse or keyboard across USB or bluetooth) Pocket TV (MPEG player) http://www.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=55367>Smart Explorer (no, the one that comes with the phone IS NOT enough!) SP http://www.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=7065>Task Manager (ditto) Bluetooth Toggler ESSENTIAL SHOW-OFF APP: Betaplayer (plays DivX and MPEG) There'll be a few PC applications you'll need to compliment these correctly - the Pocket Control PC requires a PC equivalent to work, and to get your DVD's onto your smartphone you'll need to use "SmartRipper" and "PocketDivx encoder". Then all you need is a nice Mini-SD to store things on. My 512Mb works OK, but 1Gb's are out now and they're SO tempting.... Believe it or not, I used to have easily double or triple this amount of programs on my old SPV classic with 256 SD, but when I traded up I realised I didn't use most of them. The above is the bare minimum I use regularly! If you need websites for any of them, reply with which ones and I'll look them up - and if you haven't already joined and browsed "Coolsmartphone.com" go and do it now!!!! :)
Guest chr1sny Posted January 6, 2005 Report Posted January 6, 2005 Nice list so far guys. Someone mentioned Opera. Whats the advantage of using Opera over Internet Explorer?
Guest hobo Posted January 6, 2005 Report Posted January 6, 2005 Hi Stu Thanks for the list. Thats a great start. Looks like I'll have to start by getting myself a big mini-SD card! Cheers
Guest Confused Stu Posted January 6, 2005 Report Posted January 6, 2005 No problem hobo. The apps themselves will all fit VERY easily onto the storage space within the phone itself if you wanted to - the size of memory card determines how much you can show off at one go to your mates. At the moment, my card holds 1 full length film (just swapped Shrek2 to "Kung Pow - Enter the Fist" as it's way funnier), an episode of Family Guy, 84 backgrounds (in case I fancy a change), 9 short films from BMWFilms.com, 12 funny MPEG animations, 12 music videos, 35 full WMA songs, 2 Java games, my ringtones & SMS tones, 4 short pornos (you have to if you want to really annoy teenage Nokia boys), 156 MP3 TV theme tunes (put 'em on shuffle and instant pub game), and my games. Oh, and 70Mb still free in case I fancy adding something else. Like I said, the phone is fine on it's own, the size of memory card just adds more show-off potential! :)

Guest jameshpg Posted June 21, 2006 Report Posted June 21, 2006 (edited) I could not live without Sniper! It is the best bluetooth/chat/social/networking app out there! Full details can be found: Full review : http://www.modaco.com/index.php?showtopic=241921&st=0 Main page+download : http://www.smartphone.si/sniper/ Forum : http://www.smartphone.si/forum/viewforum.php?f=26 Skins : http://www.smartphone.si/forum/viewtopic.php?t=28 It allows you to send and receive bluetooth messages. You can bluejack files and messages. You can 'Fix' messages which are in a different code from another phone. Check it out, you can trial it before you buy it too. Great app!
