Guest ooch Posted January 5, 2005 Report Posted January 5, 2005 Hi All, I've searched through quite a number of posts and couldn't find exactly what I was looking for so I thought I'd make my first post... I'm using an Audiovox SMT5600 unlocked and on Cingular in the US (not that any of that should matter). I have noticed that searching on the SMT5600 works based on how the contact is "Filed As". However, if you want to http://www.modaco.com/search.php>Search on name as well as company and use either the File As- last, first (company) or company (last, first) in Outlook and then browse contacts on the phone them you will find that the left parentheses is concatenated with the item before it. For example, if you do a File As in Outlook like ABC COMPANY (Smith, Fred), you will see ABC COMPANY(Smith, Fred) on the phone. The problem is that the phone now doesn't find "Smith" as you enter the keys because it thinks it part of the word "COMPANY(Smith". The only way I've found to work around this is to modify the File As by manually adding an extra space between the left parentheses and what comes before it. This is a real pain since you would have to do this to each contact by hand. So, does anyone know of a better way to be able to http://www.modaco.com/search.php>Search contacts on the phone by first, last, and company? Is there an alternative application instead of the default contacts application for the phone that would work? Thanks to all for the great information in these forums!!
Guest Confucious Posted January 6, 2005 Report Posted January 6, 2005 Welcome to the forum. It is a bug that has been mentioned before but I don't know if a solution was ever found. As it doesn't affect me I didn't follow it to closely and don't believe it was ever resolved. I know there is a program written by, i believe, Paul the owner of this forum to reformat phone numbers. Perhaps he, or maybe someone else could writr a utility to fix this bug. Hope someone can help you soon. Good luck.
