Guest tsutton Posted January 6, 2005 Report Posted January 6, 2005 The capture settings for the camera on my SPV C500, what is the recommended mode for Video? Motion-JPEG AVI MPEG-4 H.263 I'm more toward best quality than file size, so which one is better? Thanks.
Guest martin Posted January 6, 2005 Report Posted January 6, 2005 I like using Motion-JPEG AVI because it uses PCM audio and so will play in almost any PC application. I even use Betaplayer on the smartphone to play the JPEG AVI files som I can use the fast forward and rewind - a big bonus. The MPEG-4 and H.263 format use AMR audio so these are most often used for recording when sending small MMS video clips to another phone. I think quicktime on the PC can play AMR but I'm not too sure as I don't really use it for that.
Guest Posted February 20, 2005 Report Posted February 20, 2005 I've tried all three creating a 25 second video and found: Motion-JPEG AVI - By far the largest at 1.6Mb MPEG-4 - 600Kb H.263 - 350Kb All however were the same quality. I couldn't tell any difference, H.263 is compatible with Nokia phones. The only one compatible with WMP on the PC and Betaplayer on the Smartphone is Motion-JPEG AVI. QuickTime on the PC will play all three fine but BetaPlayer on the SmartPhone will only play the video for MPEG-4 and H.263. If you space isn't an issue use Motion-JPEG AVI but considering they're the same quality why waste space? I use H.263.
