Guest markjoanne Posted January 6, 2005 Report Posted January 6, 2005 Can anyone tell me if it is possible to install real player on am E200? thanks
Guest Disco Stu Posted January 6, 2005 Report Posted January 6, 2005 I've never heard of a Real Player app for any Smartphone.
Guest Matt Kirby Posted January 6, 2005 Report Posted January 6, 2005 There were a few old threads about this - as far as I can remember Real said that they weren't interested in developing a Smartphone Real player (although that may have changed), and the cost for someone else to licence the codec for their own application was prohibitive, considering the relatively small number of potential sales. Have a search on the board, and you should find a few threads about it.
Guest naysonr Posted January 9, 2005 Report Posted January 9, 2005 hey there must be a way of getting it on your smartphone as i work in Pc world and one of our pocket pc's has real player on it, so if that does then you must be able to get it for smartphone! i think the only problem was that it was running on palm os symbain software (i don't know if thats correct) but even if that was the case, one of those amazing developers out there on modaco must be able to make it smartphone compaitable. Guest Brody Posted January 9, 2005 Report Posted January 9, 2005 Pocket PC's run on Windows Mobile software, then there is Palm and Symbian which are also two more seperate Operating Systems. What is the model of the PDA you are talking about?

Why on earth would anyone want Real Player on a SmartPhone anyway? i won't let that insidious piece of spyware anywhere near my PC and I sure as heck don't want it anywhere near my phone!

Cheers Nays SPV C500 + 512mb mini sd Used to have SPV E100 <{POST_SNAPBACK}> As I said in my previous post, Real don't seem to be interested in producing a Smartphone version (because the (current) Smartphone market is much smaller than the Pocket PC or Palm market), and an independent developer would have to pay Real a fortune to licence the codec to make an independent player (which I don't see anyone jumping to do). That's not to say that someone couldn't hack or revese-engineer something to make it work, but that would be naughty and very stupid, considering the strength of Real's legal team. Of course this may all change in the future, depending on Real's assesment of the market - it may well get to the point where they decide to release one. If you really want Real to produce a player for the Smartphone platform, write to them and see what they say. Personally I could do without, considering the mess it leaves on the PC!
Guest Tunney Posted January 10, 2005 Report Posted January 10, 2005 It's available for Symbian phones, so I don't see why it won't be released for Smartphone eventually.
Guest Confucious Posted January 11, 2005 Report Posted January 11, 2005 It's available for Symbian phones, so I don't see why it won't be released for Smartphone eventually. I hope not. Now if you could get RealAlt for Smartphones.....
Guest jfran Posted January 11, 2005 Report Posted January 11, 2005 It's available for Symbian phones, so I don't see why it won't be released for Smartphone eventually. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> that was a project between niokia and real, as they needed a media player for the symbian platform, such isnt the case for the WM platform hence there is little reason to develop a playe Coincidentally, I found a site with detailed list of WMP compatible UK steaming radio stations, for the interested here you are - http://www.radiofeeds.co.uk/wmp.asp rgds jim
