Guest ehaworth Posted January 7, 2005 Report Posted January 7, 2005 (edited) Hi all, I've had a C500 for the best part of two weeks now, and ActiveSync actually detecting that the phone is connected (USB) is luck at best, i've done my best to google and check forums as much as possible, but nobody apears to be having the same issue. I've got the latest version of ActiveSync from the MS website (3.7.1 build 4034), and the C500 came with the latest operator ROM preinstalled. The phone has been SIM unlocked (using imei-check.co.uk), but (to my understanding) not decertified. If i connect the phone after its been on during the day, and i've launched apps from both miniSD card and flash, ActiveSync almost never detects it If i then reboot the phone (with no USB cable attached) it occasionally detects If i remove the miniSD card from the phone and boot with no USB attached, it detects 100% of the time. Obviously thats not really much cop when you want to put things on the miniSD and most of you're apps are on the card. Has any one else come across this issue, or could it be hardware related? Cheers in advance. Edit: Just to clarify, XP detects there is a USB connection (makes the horrible ba-bling noise) and the phone charges, but activesync dosn't do anything. Guest ehaworth Posted January 7, 2005 Report Posted January 7, 2005 Windows firewall is turned off, and i think i turned off the service as well to be sure. That wouldn't explain why i can sync when the SD card is removed, or when the phone initially boots. Thanks for the reply though!
Guest gaplayer26 Posted January 8, 2005 Report Posted January 8, 2005 Hi, have you tried with another PC? I know USB HUBS etc and sometimes ports can cause ActiveSync issues...
Guest Confucious Posted January 8, 2005 Report Posted January 8, 2005 Try un-installing ActiveSync and installing 3.8 (the latest version) making sure you do not connect the phone until asked. Also, as Garth says, try to use a port on your PC not a Hub.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted January 8, 2005 Report Posted January 8, 2005 I'm a bit confused with this bit If i remove the miniSD card from the phone and boot with no USB attached, it detects 100% of the time. How can activsync detect the phone without the USB connected? Unless...... You are connecting to activsync via BT and also trying to connect via the USB cable as well? This would give you the exact problem with having to reboot etc to get it to sync as you are technically trying to sync two devices (one device in two different ways at the saem time) and Activsync cannot do this.

Edit: Google always has the answer, silly boy :D I have tried USB ports on both a USB2 hub and directly on the motherboard, get the same results. Edited January 8, 2005 by ehaworth

Guest ehaworth Posted January 10, 2005 Report Posted January 10, 2005 I did a hardreset before seeing the ActiveSync 3.8 posts, sync wasn't as stable as it now is now with 3.8, even after the reset! Thanks for all that replied, and M$ for a patch :D
