No WMP10 upgrade planned for C500

Hi guys,

I just wrote an email to [email protected] and asked if they are planning to upgrade Windows Media Player 9 to WMP10, and to my surprise I got a (rather disappointing) response hours later:

There are unfortunately no plans to release a ROM update for the C500 with WMP 10 on the Orange network.

Am I the only one who is a bit disappointed in this? WMP9 is rather limited - I especially hate the fact that you cannot fast-forward, which makes wathing a lengthy video clip very annoying if you can't quickly skip to the place you left off (I'm watching The Daily Show while commuting 8) ).

I tried using Beta Player, but it crashes every time I try to play a WMV file (and yes, I have downloaded and installed the WMV codec). I know I could reencode all my video files, but that's a rather tedious task.

Well - actually just wanted to vent my frustration and let others, who might have been wondering about this, know.

Well does it goes O money? i mean they buy software from them (or well qtek does i guess) and well we don't pay for updates of windows do we? It sounds utterly stupid.. i mean even Wm2003 should get media player 10 if it's only for the reason that 9 is just a half coded piece of software.... it's rather good at what it should do (besides it stopping music all of the sudden and start the next track) but it cuts short :S

and lets face it if i have a c500 as my current phone its going to take something pretty special to make me upgrade !

Yeah well T-mobiles has the c500 equalivent WITH wmp10 (although it has 4 extra buttons) who knows maybe some one will crack there rom and enable it to be installed on the c500 :D just like i'm using an imate rom for my Orange e200 :D

I wish T-Mobile in the UK would offer the SDA but they don't. And I don't doubt that it's possible to get WMP10 by installing another rom...

I'm sure I read somewhere it is due out in March 2005 - but then we all know what happens to due dates....

FYI I was in a T-Mob shop today and they had the prices of data for T-Zones and it was more expensive than Orange GPRS and I don't think it gives full internet access (Sorry can't rememeber exat prices) like I said in another thread it's probably best to ask first.

Well... I got myself some info on t-mobile. but the data bundles are about twice as expensice as orange!! and just like you I sort of don't trust T-zones somehow.

like the phone but the provider is a bit shady to me.

I'm a cheapskate and would only be after the phone and not data

so it does not bother me too much :D

Just have to wait and see what deals they will be doing.
