Anyone using a C500 (firmware/phone) on Cingular?

As you all know, I posted the guide to converting the Audiovox SMT5600 to Cingular with everything working but the voicemail notification icon. The annoying yet somewhat tolerable "05" text message notification is what I get when both someone leaves a message and when I clear them out.

Perhaps I'm just a stickler when it comes to having it my way, but I wanted to know if:

1. Is anyone using an actual Orange SPV C500 phone on Cingular's network? If so, are you receiving voicemail notifications or the same "05" text message?

2. Can an 850MHz-compatible C500 firmware be loaded onto an unlocked SMT5600? Has anyone done it? I am aware of the loss of Windows Media Player 10 in the process, but as I understand it, Orange will release an update to include that, and plus, I have little need for the this version of Media Player's extra capabilities, if anything. I'd revert to PocketMusic if I had to. Can anyone provide an 850MHz-compatible version of the C500 firmware to load onto my SMT5600?

3. Are there any outstanding issues in using a C500 phone or firmware on Cingular's network? As I see it, it's a one-way process, and I won't be able to get the AT&T branded SMT5600 firmware back, since no one apparently has it. If I do make the firmware switch, it's got to work completely.

Worst case scenario, I dump the whole thing and go for an SX66 and return to the PocketPC world. But that's $350 more than what I wanted to spend. Also, the $50 rebate for the SX66 requires an "Unlimited PDA Connect" plan. I don't see this feature or plan when I go through the process of ordering one online, nor do I know the price of it (something tells me it's higher) - is it different than Media Works, and can I keep using $19.99 Media Works instead?

Please help me out as I'll be making the decisions and actions on this in the very immediate future. Thanks!

My current setup: AT&T Wireless-branded Audiovox SMT5600 (unlocked by c500-unlock.com), running on Cingular plan with Media Works.

AFAIK the C500 is 900Mhz only, it's nly the 5600 that has 850 so there isn't a C500 firmware that supports 850.

I could have sworn that either florin or some other users were talking about an 850 ROM around here. In any case, who's phone is this really that would be providing the firmware? After unlocking this AT&T Wireless phone, I get a roaming indicator all the time, other provider names popping up on my Home screen such as AT&T Wireless or T-Mobile (and hardly Cingular), and the infamous SMS message from 05 instead of a voicemail indicator icon. Just want to get these little things fixed so I can move on with it. :|

...Yes and your procedure was a God sent. Big smile on my face for like three days straight. So here's a little advice regarding the SX66. I currently own two (one for the wife and one mine) And they both work perfectly on the 19.99 media plan. I have to tell you though I'm still not ready to give up the 5600 even with the 05 message on the voicemails. If you do find a solution for that deffinitely let me know.

Hmm, I'm running my unlocked 5600 on Cingular and get the VM icon no problem.

It does however show AT&T Wireless and the triangle roaming icon. Put the same SIM in my wife's Nokia and the exact same towers show Cingular and no roam. It's driving me crazy!

The new version of SMS Notify (2.3) is my temporary solution. I call messages from 05 spam and have them deleted right away. Then I changed the spam message to "Voicemail". SO -- the 05 gets deleted and I get notified with a ringtone of my new voicemails... Not the perfect solution but it's something. I WISH there was another way.
