Guest Scotty89uk Posted January 8, 2005 Report Posted January 8, 2005 On coolsmartphone.com it always talks about unlocking phones, where do i find the file to unlock an spv c500
Guest Pondrew Posted January 8, 2005 Report Posted January 8, 2005 As of yet I don't think there's a free way of unlocking your C500. Hopefully that'll change soon as I've got a C500 coming Monday which I want to use on T-Mobile!
Guest udayan71 Posted January 8, 2005 Report Posted January 8, 2005 there doesn't seem to be a free way. to be able to use non-certified applications you can register at orange developers. otherwise there is the imei site which charges £20.
Guest mcwarre Posted January 9, 2005 Report Posted January 9, 2005 Hi udayan71, Welcome to the site :D In order to avoid confusion there are two things you should be aware of: App Unlocking. This allows non-signed applications to be run on the phone. Look for OTA. This will not allow a phone to be used on another network. Network Unlocking. The best, and cheapest, is to use www.imei-check.co.uk . I hope that clarifies things....
Guest Scotty89uk Posted January 11, 2005 Report Posted January 11, 2005 thanx for the welcome. But is there a free way of unlocking a SPV C500?
Guest scott2eyes Posted January 11, 2005 Report Posted January 11, 2005 (edited) Chances are that you won't need to- on older SPVs and other smartphones, it was impossible to install or run software that didn't carry a digital certificate unless the phone was unlocked. (This included things like skins which edit the registry to modify particular screens.) Instead, the E200 and C500 give you a warning when you try to run something without a certificate, stating that it comes from an unknown source and could be dangerous, then the phone will ask you if you want to go ahead. There is apparently an option to fully unlock the C500, but so far (touch wood) I've piled a whole bunch of uncertified software on mine and haven't had any problems so far. I think it's really for development issues (for example, being able to edit the kind of things that I don't dare play with! :D Edited January 11, 2005 by scott2eyes
Guest Confucious Posted January 11, 2005 Report Posted January 11, 2005 On the C500 you need to unlock for certain apps (not many) but Homescreen themes often require that you App unlock the phone. App unlocking is free. To network unlock a C500 you have to pay.

Guest Disco Stu Posted January 11, 2005 Report Posted January 11, 2005 Phone connected to PC - set internet connection in Data Connections to Pass Through (or Automatic)
Guest Confucious Posted January 11, 2005 Report Posted January 11, 2005 Passthrough is where you use your PC internet connection from your phone. If you are not on Orange in the UK you have to use passthrough to connect to the unlocking site otherwise it wont work.
