Guest Pondrew Posted January 10, 2005 Report Posted January 10, 2005 Afternoon all, Received a new C500 today which is on charge at the moment but the C500 experience was immediately damaged when I noticed they no longer provide the recharger with changeable plug for international use. Now I'd never really taken much notice of this little accessory when I had the SPV and SPV E200 (both of which came with it) but each year I was grateful for it when I went abroad. I remember being mildly annoyed when they stopped supplying the SPV (E200) with a carry case but that's nothing compared to this cost cutting. I'm tempted to stick with my E200 until a device comes out with decent accessories included (or until I manage to sort out the Pocket PC Phone Edition I've been shopping unsuccesfully for). I don't remember this being mentioned in the reviews which I was eagerly following when the C500 came out, we all knew we would be without a cradle but... I know it's great that the SPV C500 is now affordable to the masses as the SPV, SPV E100, and SPV E200 weren't but at the cost of the bundled accessories? :?: :D Does anyone know if the I-mate's come with better accessories? If so I may sell the C500 on Ebay...
Guest chucky.egg Posted January 10, 2005 Report Posted January 10, 2005 Not sure what you mean. Mine came with a UK-mains charger, have others (Ex00) come with a travel adaptor? I've been looking for an affordable (<£15) one of those for a while
Guest Pondrew Posted January 10, 2005 Report Posted January 10, 2005 Not sure what you mean. Mine came with a UK-mains charger, have others (Ex00) come with a travel adaptor? I've been looking for an affordable (<£15) one of those for a while  <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Sorry my friend, I mean that all previous SPVs BEFORE the C500 came with a recharger with different plugs for different areas of the world. So rather then having to shell out for a convertor when you go abroad you just unclip the UK standard plug and clip on the European one.
Guest James Posted January 10, 2005 Report Posted January 10, 2005 thats annoying.. my contract is just comming to the end and was going to upgrade to the C500.... i also use the Euro adaptor lots. does the E200 one not fit?
Guest Disco Stu Posted January 10, 2005 Report Posted January 10, 2005 You can't slide off the 3-pin bit like you could before and, as you know, the connector at the phone end is different :D
Guest James Posted January 10, 2005 Report Posted January 10, 2005 o well, looks like an adaptor for me then :D
Guest Pondrew Posted January 10, 2005 Report Posted January 10, 2005 Yeah, I wasn't happy. Actually, I made the decision to sell the C500 on. Still hoping I'll be able to get an MDA III otherwise I may go for the I-Mate SP3i. Anyone know if the accessories are any better with the SP3i?
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted January 10, 2005 Report Posted January 10, 2005 Oh come on guys! I know its disapointing Orange stripped out the accessories, but you can't give up on a device _just_ because it doesn't come with them?! Other handsets come with less and i see them bigged up all the time...
Guest Confucious Posted January 11, 2005 Report Posted January 11, 2005 How much does an international plug adaptor cost? I've no idea, i bought one years ago for another phone and have used it ever since. If that's your priority when buying a phone I know the SE phones always used to come with an adaptor but I doubt if any of the other Typhoons will. It's your choice but i can't say it's ever really bothered me, I can't remmember the last time I bought a phone that did come with an adaptor.
Guest Pigo Posted January 11, 2005 Report Posted January 11, 2005 can't you get a converter? what do those things cost? 10 pounds at most right? or is there a difference in voltage? Pigo
Guest mavisdavis Posted January 11, 2005 Report Posted January 11, 2005 Travel adapters are about £1 from an Asda store near you. You tight lot you [-X
Guest Pondrew Posted January 11, 2005 Report Posted January 11, 2005 Yeah I can get a convertor but I found the high quality accessories with the SPV and the E200 were part of the whole experience. I seem to be the only one surprised that these new model HTC phones are being supplied without the usual quality of accessories. My annoyance at the Typhoon accessories is similar to my annoyance at finding the MDA III accessories are inferior to the SPV M2000 accessories (ie, you only get one battery and I think it's only 1200mah as opposed to the 1400mah you get on Orange). You Pocket PC Phone edition owners: did your HTC devices come with local voltage converters? SP3i/SDA owners? I hear the Audiovox comes with a carry case so I wouldn't be so sure about other Typhoons also lacking the accessories...
Guest Pondrew Posted January 11, 2005 Report Posted January 11, 2005 Oh, and not wanting to shock you all but I decided yesterday, for numerous reasons, to sell the C500 to my Dad. The C500 just didn't grab me like the previous SPVs did! Honestly can't explain why as there wasn't any one reason (it certainly wasn't the accessories although the lack of voltage convertor annoyed far more then lack of cradle did). Expect I'll either pick up an SP3i (yes I know it's the same device!) or an MDA III, or Maybe a Jam, but whichever it ends up being I can guarantee it won't be on Orange (unless the long missing Orange mobile transmitter gets put up very quickly and we Selsdon gets some signal).
Guest Confucious Posted January 11, 2005 Report Posted January 11, 2005 I'm suprised you didn't like the C500 but hope you find a phone you do like. The MDA is to big for me but the JAM looks good. I believe T-Mob are releasing the SDA in this country in March so if you can wait that might ne worth looking at - what's the T-Mob signal like in youir neck of the woods? Hope your dad likes the C500 more than you do - will we be seing him in the forums? Good luck :D
Guest Pondrew Posted January 11, 2005 Report Posted January 11, 2005 That's the funniest bit. Although he's had my original SPV for the last year he couldn't be any less technical. He only wants a Smartphone for the Outlook syncing. He doesn't use ANY other features. So I guess that's a no, you won't be seeing him on here! I didn't dislike the C500, it's pretty impressive to look at (although am I crazy or is the E200 screen better?!) and so well engineered. It runs well. I can't explain why I didn't want to stick with it. I guess the opportunity to sell it and the necessity to get another contract elsewhere made up my mind. T-mobile and O2 signal here is good. Not sure about Vodafone (which is a shame because I'm tempted to go Expansys but can't be sure that Vodafone signal will be any better then Orange).
Guest Pondrew Posted January 11, 2005 Report Posted January 11, 2005 (edited) D'oh! Double post. Edited January 11, 2005 by Pondrew
Guest ga!nusha Posted January 11, 2005 Report Posted January 11, 2005 u can carry a laptop with you....cuz if you travel you most likle have a laptop and u can charge the c500 usin the usb port....
Guest Pondrew Posted January 11, 2005 Report Posted January 11, 2005 I don't have a laptop although have been tempted many times...
Guest ga!nusha Posted January 12, 2005 Report Posted January 12, 2005 lucky me...i don't travel at all... :D
Guest Redz0ne Posted January 12, 2005 Report Posted January 12, 2005 (edited) 'ave a moan, and about a plug too :D hehehe Edited January 12, 2005 by Redz0ne
Guest scottishdave Posted January 13, 2005 Report Posted January 13, 2005 If you're any good at rewiring why not strip the old power adapter and remove the cable, buy yourself a USB cable (std>mini) strip the normal end off and wire it in to the power adapter! Viola! One adapter with interchangeable pins. There are the obvious implications of doing this that's why i'm not going to do it. However if someone did their homework first I'm sure it's possible. Buying a convertor would be easier but so much less fun, wouldn't it?
Guest froglock_king Posted January 13, 2005 Report Posted January 13, 2005 i was thinking about c500 but now i dont know. :D
Guest Confucious Posted January 14, 2005 Report Posted January 14, 2005 froglock_king - I know what you mean. The lack of an international plug adaptor is disgraceful. Now it hasd been bought to my attention I'm thinking of getting rid of my C500 and getting two cans with a piece of string because I've heard that this will work in Europe. Does anyone know if this solution would work in the USA as well?
