MPx220 First time Async... Stuck!

Hi all,

Been a while since SPV Canary but I'm back in the SP business with a shiney MPx220 8)

Couldn't wait to start activesyncing (3.8) outlook to the phone, but it seems there's a slight problem with it, cause active sync is stuck on "connecting" for a very long time. it seemed like a very cool plug and play situation at first as the windows hardware wizard (xp sp1) detected a Motorola MPx220 Smartphone, but activesync's "get connected" option doesn't find anything on USB (I'm using a motorola P2K cable, should work shouldn't it?! I'm also getting "mobile device" under my computer but nothing there) and when the computer does recognise "something" connected, activesync starts working but doesn't get anywhere beyond "connecting"...

Some returning-oldie-newbe help will be great guys :D

Have you had a look at http://www.modaco.com/index.php?showtopic=119341

Why are you not using SP2?

Good luck.

Isn't it possible syncing with a motorola cable?

And a couple more questions:

what's main battery & backup battery??

any known issues with GPRS on my version? everything is set up perfectly but explorer just won't display any page and gives "coverage error" arrgh.

Okay let's forget about bluetooth for a second. connecting with a usb cable is suppose to be the biggest plug and play in the world... computer recognises Motorola MPx220 Smartphone and ActiveSync starts "connecting" but nothing from there!!! I gotta tell ya, it's driving me pretty crazy... what ever in the world could be the reason for that?

Sorry, I thought you ere trying to Sync using BT. With USB the two problems are:

1) If you are using a hub try using a port that isn't on a hub, or;

2) Your firewall is blocking the connection.

My guess is 2)

What's the exact symptom of having a firewall block the connection? I'm not sure I'm getting it. cause my Activesync actually spins and says "connected" which means it discovers a phone, sometimes when I disconnect the phone (tired form the damn meaningless spinning circle) it says "guest connected" for a second and only then disconnects the phone... bah! anyway, removed the firewall and antivirus and still no luck... and I don't have a USB hub.

This is terrible, I read that hard reset should fix it, already tried two hard resets... still nothing!

thanks for your help mate... any other ideas?

Okay I'm getting somewhere now... tried connecting the phone to the other computer, under 5 secs and Activesync was CONNECTED!!!

Now this worries me a bit, cause it means that:

1. The problem is with the USB? I don't know if the other computer uses USB 2.0, but I'm pretty sure mine uses 1.0 cause it's only a PIII 833MHz, other puter is PIII. could it be that MPx220 can only be installed via USB cable with USB 2.0? I don't even think the cable itself is 2.0 compliant... plus I wasn't able to connect with Bluetooth to AS as well, which brings me to my next option.

2. Software issue? lotsa installing and uninstalling different Motorola Drivers/Programs/Phones caused something to malfunction in my operating system, making the problem a pure software issue, which is more to my liking, but still means I have to re-install my os. EVEN THOUGH I have tried it on another XP SP1 on my system (an old one though) and the result was the same.

So the odds for and against each of the possibilities are pretty even eh... which leaves me crazed and upset.

What advice am I looking for? I have no idea, just wanted to update whoever is reading this thread I guess :D I think I'm gonna try to install a secondary XP OS on one of the drives and get NOTHING on there but AS3.8 and absulutely rule out option 2. UNLESS someone comes out and tells me this'll never work with USB1.

Got up in the morning, gave it another desperate attempt... and it successfuly synced!!! even allowing me access to "my mobile" under my computer and everything. this is totally crazy...

Anyway this brings me to a follow up question... is my phone SUPPOSE to be un-responsive when it's attached to the computer with the usb cable? I can't press any button in that situation... I installed a EXE util on my computer and was asked on the phone's screen to approve the installation, but had to take out the USB connector in order to do that.

And unrelated: what's a backup battery? upon USB disconnection phone keeps telling me my Backup battery is low even though the phone (well the battery  ) is fully charged.

Oh and another thing, I am running manufacturer version 1.5 which is good (camera rocks on this phone) but if I'm having REALLY bad battery times (few hours nothin more) does it mean I have prototype hardware?

Thnx guys.
