Guest Killian Posted January 11, 2005 Report Posted January 11, 2005 I was just wondering how do you tell whether your phone is using pass through internet. I connected it to my pc using the USB and had it synced, then, if i use the internet explorer on my phone will it use my house hold internet rather than cost me a bomb for gprs? Is there any way i can be certain i'm not using my gprs as i really cant afford another high phone bill!
Guest Confucious Posted January 11, 2005 Report Posted January 11, 2005 If you are using GPRS you will have the little G by the bettery meter, if you're using passthrough you won't. But what is the point of using passthrough via USB? Why not just use yo're PC? I use passthrough via BT so I can browse and check email in another room but don't you find the USB cable somewhat restrictive?
Guest Killian Posted January 11, 2005 Report Posted January 11, 2005 you know, i didn't really think of that, i just wanted to know how to do it :D what if i get the g to the left of the battery meter? That means gprs is available doesn't it. So aslong as there is no g above the signal strength then i'm using pass through? How do i sync via bluetooth then, do i need to buy some sort of bt usb device? Thanks for the fast reply aswell.
Guest Confucious Posted January 11, 2005 Report Posted January 11, 2005 Yes and yes. Buy a cheap BT Dongle for your PC should cost Good luck.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted January 11, 2005 Report Posted January 11, 2005 Unless you have the audiovox ROM where GPRS is connected but idle, so once you connect after a reboot the G stays above the signal bar until you power off.
Guest pauledmond Posted January 11, 2005 Report Posted January 11, 2005 But what is the point of using passthrough via USB? Why not just use yo're PC? I use FizzTraveler to see the weather forecast for different locations. This is a good example where a passthrough connection can be used, as it is cheaper if one updates the weather info everyday. I'm sure there are also other instances when this can come in handy...
Guest Killian Posted January 11, 2005 Report Posted January 11, 2005 I have just tried the pass through internet while connected via the usb but i still get the little g appear above the signal indicator while searching. Doesn't that mean i'm still using gprs? Might sound stupid but i've learned my lesson with gprs, do not use it! :D Is way too expensive.
Guest Confucious Posted January 11, 2005 Report Posted January 11, 2005 What phone have you got? See Awarners post above. If you are on Orange in the UK then you are not using passthrough.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted January 11, 2005 Report Posted January 11, 2005 Check your settings in Settings\Data Connections have this set for Automatic
Guest Killian Posted January 12, 2005 Report Posted January 12, 2005 I am on Orange UK and I own a C500, brand new and app unlocked. I just checked my settings in settings> data connections and the settings were as follows; Internet connection: Orange GPRS Work connection: Automatic WAP connection: Orange WAP Secure WAP connection: Automatic If I change the internet connection settings to Automatic, will pass through actually work?
Guest Killian Posted January 12, 2005 Report Posted January 12, 2005 thats gota be the shortest post i've ever seen! Thanks for the help anyway. regards Killian
