Guest telthenipper Posted January 11, 2005 Report Posted January 11, 2005 Hi, I have a SPV E200 phone, which I unlocked using the patched firmware method and is unlocked and is fully working nicely on the O2 UK network. The only problem that I’m having is trying to application unlock my phone. I have been to the Orange site put in my name, email address, mobile telephone number and IMEI number of my phone. Then I get told by the site that I’ll get a message stating that my phone has been application unlocked, but I never get this message. I’ve tried to unlock it this way several times but I never get the message. Can anyone advise my on what I’m doing wrong? The other thing that I’m really confused about is that I initially thought that my phone was application unlocked, because I’ve installed a number of applications and most say that they are not signed or something like that but give me the option to install them anyway. This lead me to believe that my phone was app unlocked. Today I installed Agile Messenger, which installed fine, but when I run it says that there is a later version and starts to download it, but it then says that it can’t go any further because the software is unsigned. So now I’m really confused. Can anyone one explain why my phone has allowed to install loads of stuff that’s not signed but not this one single app? Many thanks in advance, Tel
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted January 11, 2005 Report Posted January 11, 2005 As you are now using O2 SIM you will have to use passthrough connnection and connect your phone to the internet via the PC. Application unlocking over GPRS will only work in the UK and with an Orange SIM. All other SIMS and countries must use passthrough.
Guest telthenipper Posted January 11, 2005 Report Posted January 11, 2005 Thanks for the info mate, i'll give it a try when i get home. tel
Guest telthenipper Posted January 11, 2005 Report Posted January 11, 2005 What I can't understand though is that most of the apps that I've installed have installed fine (after telling me that they are unsigned and giving me the option to continue), but this one won't, so I don't know if my phone is app unlocked or not as most apps install fine. Any ideas why this is the case. Many thanks, Tel
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted January 11, 2005 Report Posted January 11, 2005 Unless you have done the application unlock yourself it will still be locked, the newer phones do not have as high a level of application lock than older phones ie the SPV had.
Guest telthenipper Posted January 11, 2005 Report Posted January 11, 2005 Oh I see. I'm trying to unlock it at home now and I've put my E200 in it's cradle at home so it's using the passthru connection, but the after I put all my details in, the page keeps timing out. Any Ideas, Many thanks, Tel
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted January 11, 2005 Report Posted January 11, 2005 Check your firewall and turn off and popup blockers you may be using.
Guest telthenipper Posted January 12, 2005 Report Posted January 12, 2005 Thanks I sorted the page timing out, it was my add blocker. I've put my phone in the cradle so it's in passthru mode, I've gone to the page, put my name, email address, phone number and IMEI number in. I then get the screen that says I will get a message saying that my phone will be unlocked and can take up to 5mins, but the message never comes and my phone still isn't app unlocked. I've tried this several times now with no luck. Please can anyone tell me were I'm going wrong? Please help me app unlock my phone. TIA Tel
Guest Confucious Posted January 12, 2005 Report Posted January 12, 2005 Keep trying - someone else said that he tried 8 times before it finally worked. Don't know why, it worked first time for me (but then I'm on Orange in the UK)
Guest telthenipper Posted January 12, 2005 Report Posted January 12, 2005 I'll keep trying and let you guys that have been very helpful know when I'm successful. One thing, when I have my phone in it's cradle in passthru mode, do I need to connect my phone the internet (say google) when I try the app unlock or doesn't matter if my phone is connected to the internet or not when I try to the app unlock. Many thanks, Tel
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted January 12, 2005 Report Posted January 12, 2005 I would connect it but from past experience it does not matter as long as the phone can connect to the internet in some way.
Guest wolfe Posted January 13, 2005 Report Posted January 13, 2005 Here is the Action Register application that you are offered when you unsuccessfully enter in your mobile number and your IMEI number. * Attach your SPV E200 to your PC via the USB cable. * Download and run the ActionRegister.ARM.cab.exe EXE on your PC, which will install the Action Register application on your handset. * Run the Action Register application and press the Register soft key to register your handset and its mobile number with the Orange servers. * Go back to the web page for requesting disabling the Certificate Security on your handset. * As soon as you see the page that says "Your SPV will be unlocked shortly", then go back to your SPV and the Action Register application. * Press the "Get Cmds" soft key to cause the Action Register application to go to the Action Engine distribution machines and gather the Certificate Security Disabling command. NOTE: This might take a minute, so be patient. You should eventually see the web page stating that "Your SPV has been unlocked." This is the method for getting your certificate security disabled on your handset. The SPV E200 and SPV C500 have a mechanism called "User Prompting" for applications that do not do "Privileged" operations on the handset. This works by allowing users to specify that they would like to install and/or run applications that do not try to do operations that can cost the user money -- like sending SMS messages or making telephone calls. Unfortunately, if an application does one of these "privileged" operations, then an unsigned CAB file will simply fail to install, citing "insufficient priviledges". You could be running into a problem where the CAB file is trying to change a protected part of the Registry, or the application is trying to do something that is OK for a signed application -- but will fail with an unsigned application. There are many different ways for a CAB file to fail installation on a certificate security enabled handset. NOTE: Even if you successfully disable your certificate security on your handset, applications which try to do these "privileged" operations will continue to fail. Good luck! Best Regards, John WolfeActionRegister.ARM.cab.exe
Guest telthenipper Posted January 14, 2005 Report Posted January 14, 2005 Thanks for the info Wolfe. I've installled and run the ActionRegister.ARM.cab.exe EXE like you said but the thing is I can't seem to find "Get Cmds" on he menu. When in Orange Register I've got 'Register on the left soft key and Options on the right one. In the Options I've only got 1 Register, 2 Lauch Lock and 3 Quit, no Get Cmds. On the Orange Register screen it's got my phone number and my IMEI number, then it says Registered: YES and Lock: Running. How do I get the get cmd option. I've been trying with no sucess to app unlock my phone for 3 days now, please help. Many thanks in advance TEl
