I have the SPV C500 on Orange PAYG (not used it yet). I was thinking of unlocking the phone and useing my T-mobile sim in it as there is still 4 months left on my monthly contract with them and then going on to T-Mobile PAYG later when the contract runs out. Thing is, the salesman in my local mobile shop says Orange is a better network then T-Mobile and T-Mobile charge more for stuff as well. Is this correct.

I think the best deal at the moment is those free O2 SIMs that are floating about.

As long as you top up your phone with £10 each month, you get 300 texts and 1MB GPRS free.

I can't speak in an offical capacity (I'll get wrong for it!!) but i can give a few pointers..

Orange

--------

There are a wide range of different services, and packages to choose from, def more than O2.

New technologys are pushed further and faster (Approx 70% 3G coverage at present)

There are a lot of special promtion tie in's with new films, games etc and you can get lots of different freebies too depending on packages availabilty.

Support services are in place to cover, just about every conciveable issue that may crop up, and if there isn't there's plenty of ways to suggest changes and improvments.

On the down side, charges are a little higher, approx £4 per Mb for PAYG and £3 for contracts (Unless you buy your usage in bundles)

Not as wide a selection, all the basics are there, but they rely to hevily on keeping people stuck with the same constant service plans.

No 3G coverage (Of there own) yet, but some of the newer technologies, such as 2.5g are built on the back of other providers.

Lot's of advertising, but not very many tie in's, so nothing like half price movie tickets and merchandise.

Support wise, well what can i say, if they can't pin it down to a signal problem, or see it on a coverage map...... they don't wanna know!!!!

Charges are a bit cheaper (Don't know exactly how much by) but you definatly don't get as much for your money..

Have a browse on 'orange.co.uk' and 'O2.co.uk' there's comparison charts etc, but sometimes thay can be a little difficult to find.

Trouble is with Orange you get very little phone stuff free. An o2 payg sim will get you 300sms for a tenner a month, plus the tenners worth is 400sms for £10 a month, or a mixture of calls accordingly. With Orange at best you get 3p texts for 6 months. The half price tickets are all good and fine but still no comparison...

naaa...i have been on both networks and i just simply prefer orange....especially because they sent me an e200+c500 when i ordered just the 1 e200..hehe...and i only pay for the e200's contract :D

Also, we have a much better GPRS network than other UK networks imo. Plus a lot cheaper too! Being the first network to launch the SPV (as well as other great network features, for example Wildfire that remember it) shows just how comitted Orange is to bringing the latest innovative products to the market.

I think I won't bother unlocking the phone. I stick with Orange i ain't had no problems with the network and Orange CS have always been helpfull when I've phoned them to chheck things on the phone. It's just a pity it costs a lot to phone other networks, as all my friends are on T-Mobile.

In general I have always found Orange to have better CS than any other network and they are a fun network to be on (the tie-ins and things are much better - Orange Wednesdays anyone?).
