C500 + Leadtek 9537 GPS + Mapopolis

I hope this hasn't been posted before, I couldn't see anything.

Anyway, I have bought a Leadtek 9537 bluetooth GPS receiver and have installed mapopolis. Anyway the problem I am having is that I can't get the program to pickup the GPS unit. I have registered it with the C500 and it is sucessfully recongnised as a 'Leadtek Bluetooth GPS'.

Can anyone give me advice as to why this isn't being found, or sugest any free software which will allow me to at least make sure the GPS receiver is working properly.

Thanks for your help.

Hi StrictlySocial, you did not give any error messages so this may not work but give it a try.

Press Start goto Settings then goto Bluetooth, press Menu and go to Bonded Devices. In here remove any previous GPS's. When these have been removed (if any) set the Bluetooth to Discoverable and press Done twice and Home to take you back.

Switch your GPS on then go to Start then Configurations and then open BT SerialPortSetup. Tick both boxes and press Done, it will ask you to start bonding with your devices and it will take you straight to the Bluetooth screen.

Press Menu, Bonded Devices then press Menu and New. Wait for the phone to recognise the gps, put the pin number in then press Done, Done and Done.

Your gps will be on COM7 and the Baud rate will be 4800.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. I have managed (with your help) to get a working connection with Mapopolis :D but I am still struggling with TomTom mobile. From what I understand TomTom mobile will automatically detect the GPS without setting any need to set it up.

Now I have got a copy of TT mobile which supposedly allows any GPS but it doesn't seem to find it (or come up with any error saying it can't find it). The only error I get is a message down the bottom left hand corner saying "GPS single was lost x seconds ago."

More cheekyness from the newbies, any more advice?

Thanks again.

There has been many discussions on getting other gps's to work with TTM and some of them require removing the gps from the system and letting TTM find it by itself.

Do a search for TomTom or Leadtek 9537, I have a TomTom BT GPS so both Mapopolis and TTM work.

OK, sorry for the delay. Anyway thanks goes to Melvin T who emailed me this information:

to get it working i applied the mobile traffic patch and followed these instructions from http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?...ewtopic&t=12719 but when the device is paired (step 7) renamed it to    TomTom Wireless GPS      note the caps ;-)

cut/paste:

There is a known bug on the C500 which makes pairing work but no application can use the GPS.

The best way to pair a device successfully is to

1) delete all pairings you have

2) go into configuration and disable outbound COM7 and OK

3) go back and re-enable COM7

4) power cycle phone

5) Go in and re-enable COM7 again (it's unchecked)

6) This will throw you into Bluetooth pairing

7) Create a new bond and pair key

8 ) Before doing anything else, power cycle phone

9) Go back in and double check that COM7 is now enabled under Configuration

10) Now use any GPS application and it should work.

Seemed to work fine after that. Hope this helps someone.

Ive spent most of my day ripping my hair out of my head with this new GPS BT receiver I have purchased... I got it working fine with my XDAII and it pairs up and navigates fine..

However, on my C500 the Leadtek 9537 pairs up fine with the handset and bonds, however when I start the software up it says it cant find the GPS Device.. Ive done all the tips and tricks posted at Modaco and PocketGPS forums and I just dont know wat else to do..

Currently Ive tried: The Tom Tom Traffic Update, naming the BT GPS to TomTom Wireless GPS and TomTom GPS, turning the handset on and off during each step...

Also, does com 6 and com 7 setting in the BTserial port setup thingiyo need to be enabled or disabled.. ive tried it both ways but it aint working!!

Any help will be appreciated... Is this device even compatible with the c500!!
