ok, I have just gone to task manager after my phone started playing up a little and found this 'App' running... In the App name column it says Downloads and under 'opened by' column it says aeupdate.exe under \windows.

Is this the app that is responsible for my data charges over the last months or so?

What is AEupdate??? What is my phone updating (or trying too)?

Any help appreciated!

It's the Orange Action Engine software, I think, which may well be causing data calls to be made. Did you install it as part of the unlocking procedure ?

From memory that process is part of the ROM and is needed when Application Unlocking your phone. It should not do doing anything else on your phone.

and no I didn't install AEupdate, I don't think??? Is this an option or extra when App unlocking???? what triggers this bit of software, do you know?

Maybe time for a hard reset?

No, that's far too drastic.

AFAIK it's just a bridge for Orange to communicate with your phone. You can stop it running with Task Manager and as long as it doesn't keep firing itself up I would leave it. It's bound to come in useful at some later stage.

I thought it might have been installed as part of the application unlocking process but Awarner is more likely to be right. Either way, I wouldn't worry about it.
