Ok, so I thought the dust was bad enough but now it's worse!

Since getting my phone three months ago, the dust had gradually built up. So, last week I packed it off to HTC to be cleaned and have the seal fitted.

It came back all clean but with a problem on the earpiece. The person calling sounded so quiet that you could barely hear them and what you could hear sounded like they were at the bottom of a well!

So, I contacted HTC who said they couldn't understand that as they had done nothing to the earpiece. They suggested completely re-setting the handset...which I did to no avail. They then said that they would ask their technicians for any ideas.

I got fed up at this stage and rang Orange CS, explained the fault and they agreed to send me a new handset which arrived at 09:30 on Thursday morning.

This evening I noticed that there is now a HAIR under the screen!! How on earth did that get there?!? It doesn't bode too well for the dust problem not re-curring.

Any ides on how to get rid of the hair? Have tried an air-duster around the action buttons to no avail.

There are already a couple of threads detailing how to strip apart a C500 and clear dust/hairs from under it. Try this one for my step by step download:

C500 de-dusting

One word of warning though, stripping your phone WILL invalidate your warranty and HTC/Orange WILL be able to tell. That said, my theory was if the warranty doesn't cover the thing that's wrong - what's the point of keeping the warranty! :D

Mine's started building up dust a little again on one corner, but it's right in the wrong place for my favourite home screen so my air-duster's coming out again in a few minutes! :D
