Downloading arbitrary files?

How do you download arbitrary files with Pocket Internet Explorer? I've been trying to search the forum, and I've found a few things, but I haven't quite found something that works well for me.

I'm on WM2003SE on an MPx220, and whenever I try to download an eBook (in my case, a .pdb) from manyboooks.net, but I keep getting the error message "This file cannot be viewed on the device.".

When I was searching the forum, I found the posts about altering your registry to (in my case):

HKCR\.pdb\Default = "pdbfile"

HKCR\pdbfile\EditFlags = 65536

And I did set those, but I still get those errors. Any ideas? Is there a better way to download files onto my SmartPhone?
