Can someone please tell me what I am doing wrong. I cannot send emails on my c500. I get error message "unable to connect to the incoming server "

settings are as follows

server type pop3

account name pipex

network the internet

incoming server pop.dsl.pipex.net ( have tried .com as well )

outgoing server smtp.orange.net

emails on pc received on pipex broadband

c500 is on orange contract

sms, mms msn all working ok. Correct password and email addy entered.

Tried using emailwizard on phone without success and also downloaded settings from orange website which also did not work.

I am a complete techno no hoper and am obviously missing something very obvious. I would appreciate your advice here. TIA

Welcome to the forums.

The incoming server should be the same as you have in Outlook normally but I notice that pipex have seperate pop servers for dial up and dsl. You could try using pop.dial.pipex.com but first I'd try your existing settings but using a passthrough connection so you are actually connecting via DSL.

The other common problem is passwords - when you fiorst enter it the c500 often gets the first didgit wrong - it's best to go and edit it, deleting what's there and making sure you put in the correct one, but this usually gives an incorrect password error.

Let us know if changing the incomming server works, if not maybe someone else who has pipex adsl can help.

Good luck.

Thanks for the speedy reply and the advice offered.

I have tried both Pipex incoming servers without any luck.

Have re entered password as you suggested but still no luck.

what is a "passthrough connection" Internet connection is set to automatic.

Would it make any difference that my email account is a second mailbox on my partners pipex account? would I have to use his user id? clutching at straws here , i know!

When you are conected to your PC via activesync if your internet connection is set t automatic (or passthrough) it will use your PC's internet connection and not GPRS.

Have you checked Pipex's web support? I have a domain with multiple usernames and for email I have to log on wirh mainuser-emailname as the user -I don't know how pipex is set up, sorry.

Good luck with it

Pass-through is when you are connected to your PC with ActiveSync.

If the internet setting is on Automatic, when you access the internet from the phone it will use the PC's connection rather than GPRS.
