Guest alexis_winters17 Posted January 21, 2005 Report Posted January 21, 2005 Hi guys, got my c500 today finally, good timing too as my e200 doesn't look too healthy. Shame my G.I.T.S. skin is looking a bit crap. Two questions, 1. The Java app, what can I use with this? games etc. 2. The pv player? Whaa? Any other tips for a newbie to the c500 are welcome (though not new to smartphones)! Thanks!
Guest chucky.egg Posted January 21, 2005 Report Posted January 21, 2005 (edited) 1. The Java app, what can I use with this? games etc. I've never used the Java on mine at all. By comparison Java stuff generally sucks, but there are things like the Nokia unlock-code generator that might have some "oh, cool" factor 2. The pv player? Whaa? Plays video, but only some formats. Again, never use it, just get BetaPlayer and it'll meet all yout audio and video needs. Freeware too! Any other tips for a newbie to the c500 As a general rule I demo ALL games before I buy them - just in case the scroller/joystick-thing doesn't suit them. Edited January 21, 2005 by chucky.egg
Guest alexis_winters17 Posted January 21, 2005 Report Posted January 21, 2005 Thanks! Though Betaplayer killed my e200 last time...ah well...
Guest alexis_winters17 Posted January 22, 2005 Report Posted January 22, 2005 Back again! 1. What, if any, cases do people use for their c500? (I had the krusell one for my e200, was good, but made taking surprise pics impossible. Unless you could open poppers and velcro silently...) 2. Why can the c500 uses WMAs as ringtones but not as alarm clock sounds?
Guest DSF Posted January 23, 2005 Report Posted January 23, 2005 The included JAVA engine is simple a crappy one, i've tested around 30 java games and just about 3 or 5 worked. PV player is also for streaming video Maybe someone else will try to respond to your unanswered questions...
Guest Tristan Posted January 23, 2005 Report Posted January 23, 2005 It's not a crappy one, it's just that some games don't fellow specs. Especially Nokia games are known to just follow their own rules...
Guest DSF Posted January 23, 2005 Report Posted January 23, 2005 (edited) Well then why SonyEricsson (K500, for example), Sagem MyX5-2 and any other devices from different manufactures runs almost all Nokia Series40 games (screen resolution similar in each devices)? Also SonyEricsson K700 (wich has 176x220, same resolution as Windows Smartphones) runs almost all (if not all) Series60 java games.. So the included JAVA engine is not so compatible, it's very strict i guess.. However on a smartphone, the java apps/games are not important, since the native 3rd party (windows/symbian applications) are more powerfull than JAVA Edited January 23, 2005 by DSF
Guest alexis_winters17 Posted January 24, 2005 Report Posted January 24, 2005 Okay....so what are the ones that work?
Guest Confused Stu Posted January 24, 2005 Report Posted January 24, 2005 I've got quite a nice little Pang JAVA game, and an almost decent Minesweeper clone from www.midlet.org. It gives you a choice of downloading the JAR or JAD file - I went for the JAR cos that's what coolsmartphone.com recommended when the C500 came out and they did a piece on the JAVA engine. P.S. Music doesn't work on the PANG game and it only uses half the screen, so it still comes way behind Li-Nuggz for impressiveness!
