Hi

Just got my new spv500 and I've got a few questions...

1. How do I set an mp3 as a ring tone? Or does it have to be a wav? Where should I place the file on my phone and how would I select it as a ringtone?

2. I've heard a lot of people talking about file explorers. Do i need one? Which one is best?

3. I've set up what I think is a passthrough connection via bluetooth allowing me to use the internet on my phone. Is there any way I can check that this is indeed a passthrough via bluetooth and it's not charging me for gprs or something?

4. are there any other utilities I should have on my phone? Is there an IRC client?

Also, i've tried to application unlock my phone via the developers orange link. Kept telling me it wouldnt work, said I needed to connect to the internet. I've connected via passthrough, would that do?

Can't think of anything else at the mo, I'm sure i'll remember some other stuff soon :D

Cheers :D

Welcome to the forum :D

1. You can't use MP3s, only wavs, wmas & midis. Put them in \Storage \Applicstion Data \Sounds.

2. There is already a file explorer in your Accessories folder but you can get a better version from www.binarys.com

3. When the phone is transferring data by GPRS you will get a little 'G' over the battery indicator.

4. There is an IRC client on Handango here. As for other essential additions I would suggest having a look on Handango, Smartphone.net etc and have a browse through the Software sections here.

5. The pass-through method is used by overseas / non-Orange users so I don't see why it won't work for you. Give it a go but be warned that it doesn't always work first time.

Ok, i've unlocked my phone (in the end I had to download the registration program from orange, then try unlocking again) and i've installed smart explorer and got passthough internet working :D

Still cant find an IRC client though :S

Well the one on handango looked s*** (and expensive)

After much googling I found this. It's very basic, but free :D
