I thought i'd give you guys a heads up on some new software i've almost finished.

This software enables the user to send free sms messages via gprs or passthrough connection to activesync.

There are 3 parts to the program, the server(desktop pc), the client(phone) and the great http://www.genietexter.co.uk/.

1) Start the server on the pc.

2) When you want to text someone, fire up java on the phone and start this program.

It will login you into ur pc at home and once you send ur message, the server will autorun genietexter and send your message.

Simple :D

The program has an inbuilt phonebook (sorry, i don't know how to import the phones contacts).

I've got a bit of fine tuning to do, but it should be ready soon.

Here's some pics of it running in an emulator (also works with C500).

Does anybody know how to setup the C500 for sending SMS thru GPRS ?

I have an unlimited Data Plan for a monthly flat rate and I would like to divert all SMS toward GPRS as to lower my bill..... I am sending over 2000 SMS a months.

Cheers,

SMSClient 0.1

What is it?

This software enables the user to send free sms messages via gprs or passthrough connection via activesync. There are 3 parts to the program, the server(GenieServer.jar), the client(SMSClient.jad/jar) and the great http://www.genietexter.co.uk/

How to Use

* First make sure you have Java on your computer, you can get the latest version from: http://public.planetmirror.com/pub/...i586-p-iftw.exe

* Be sure you can send/receiver a text message with GenieTexter

* Put "GenieServer.jar" in the same folder as "GenieTexter.exe"

* Start up the "GenieServer.jar"

* Install SMSClient on your phone (SMSClient.jad/SMSClient.jar)

* Pick a connection:

* Sync is for when you are connected to your computer via activesync (USB/bluetooth)

* Local is for when you are running in a javaphone emulator (Testing Purposes)

* IP is to connect to your computer over GPRS, just input your ip address in the box provided

* Press 'OK' and accept the security message about connecting

* To add a new contact, click 'Menu' and select 'New Contact'

* Input a the Name and Number and click 'Add'

* To select a contact to text, click 'Menu' and select 'Contacts'

* Highlight a contact and click 'Select'

* Type your message in the Message box

* To send your message, click 'Menu' and then 'Send'

Problems?

* Status says "Connected to computer, please wait...." forever

- Make sure you are running the server program on your desktop

* It says the connection has timed out

-Make sure your ip address is correct, enable/forward port 2004 on your router if you have one.

I'm on Text Only plans which has 3,000 text included a month. Only costs me £20 a month.

Updated version is now out

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

A small request for an future update:

Enable the use of an '+" in the number field!

I can't test it now because SMSAC requires that. (or 07 numbers I don't use)

Thank You!

If you put your numbers into genietexter address book and grab them via the program you can use '+'s then. I will look into changing the input for that field

EDIT: Updated version just for you :D Download above

I do take donations

I would gladly do that if i used your software ;) The gateway i just started using had their own java klient that i managed to install on my PDA..

But just because you asked and I'm feeling in a good mood. You can have a donation of 20% of the money I will have saved in 6months ;)

hmm this sounds great but i'm about to stop my Gprs bundle since i don't use it that often

also the e200 doesn't support java by default so i'm rather worried about it

BUT it does sound GREAT and i'm very interested in looking into this myself (i'm about to start something diffrent but also on the sms area and so, wíll keep it a secret for now) and it does sound really nice.

I am more then willing to help with development of a .net/C++ version which would mean greater compatablity with other phones. I couldn't get my head around connections in .net so i made the java version instead.

You could try this which will probably work on the e200:
