Guest Chaser81 Posted January 23, 2005 Report Posted January 23, 2005 Okay, we all have an I-Mate Jam. We have probably had it for a few weeks now, and have, over these last few weeks, tweaked and fiddled with the OS, personalising everything that can possibly be personalised. Now that you are done with the installing, the tweaking and the prodding (ooh err!), what kind of things do you use your Jam for in your day to do lives, and whats the most fun you have had with it?
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted January 23, 2005 Report Posted January 23, 2005 I use it almost exclusively for e-mail - Exchange Server Activesync, the odd call, and a bit of web browsing. I have SSH and FTP installed in case of server emergencies, and a few games. I also have a 1GB SD card in, and sync TV and Music automatically with my Media Center in the living room. Sweeeeeeeeeeet... P

Guest Blakey Posted January 24, 2005 Report Posted January 24, 2005 Got only a few select programs loaded on mine: Magic Button I just want X to stop applications. I wanted something simple, plus it's free. MS Voice Command This is so handy. Particularly useful when driving and wanting to start apps or change songs. Also useful for general stuff like phoning people. Memory Map I use this out on my mountain bike. This is the main reason I wanted a pocket pc instead of smartphone. No smartphones do off road GPS packages. Mapopolis Stupidly useful application. I have all of western europe on my desk top and have loaded England and Wales onto my SD card. I went to a wedding in Kent this weekend and it proved invaluable. Media Player Standard JAM software. I think this is superb. No need for a third party app. 1GB card = copious amounts of albums which I copy over via a card reader to keep them varied. I have a Aux In cable on my car stereo so I plug my JAM into the car stereo and use it there. Mobi Pocket Reader Great stuff. Have a simple way to convert .lit files to format which Mobi uses so I have literally hundreds of books loaded onto my SD card. Calendar Use this every day to keep my diary in. Contacts Equally used every day. I use my JAM as a mp3 player (especially in the car) and in conjunction with my BT GPS to find my way. I use it to read my book whenever I have a spare minute. Obviously I use it as a phone as well, and as a diary/address book. How cool is it to be able to carry around 200 classic books and about 10 albums, plus the road maps of the entirety of England and Wales and an OS map of my usual cycling haunts all in one unit? This device is wicked! Cheers Blakey
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted January 24, 2005 Report Posted January 24, 2005 Deepak, Jam works a treat with my CK3300 now i've upgraded to the latest firmware :D P
Guest Austblue Posted January 25, 2005 Report Posted January 25, 2005 Hey blakey have you got any tips where to get e-books from? The only apps I've loaded so far are D9 which gives you the bigger buttons (if its extra functions don't benefit me I'll just get a skin), and vbar which allows you to switch between active programs, close some/all of them with one click and displays a rather small and therefore quite useless battery/memory meter  This is my first ppc so still investigating what mods I want and the best (read: free) way to get them :D
Guest andrewpmoore Posted January 25, 2005 Report Posted January 25, 2005 I use the following: Tomtom Navigator 3 GPS Fugawi GPS - northern england GreenSoftware GS Battery Monitor (Excellent battery icon that sits in the title bar, looks like a microsoft icon) TascalSoft CloseAll to close all programs Ilium Software eWallet to remember all those usernames and passwords Sprite software, so I can try out programs and then if I don't like them just do a restore to before I installed. PocketZenPhone for switching profiles between home, work, car etc Voice Command Also use media player when in work at the weekends to listen to music.
Guest Blakey Posted January 25, 2005 Report Posted January 25, 2005 Hey blakey have you got any tips where to get e-books from? Yes I have! :D Firstly try here: http://www.free-ebooks.net/fiction.html Also here are over 1500 free books for MSReader: http://www.mslit.com/default.asp?mjr=FRE My prefered place to *buy* eBooks is here: http://www.mobipocket.com/en/HomePage/default.asp You can download MobiPocket reader for free here: http://www.mobipocket.com/en/DownloadSoft/default.asp On the same page you can also download Mobi Publisher, which is free for personal use. This application: http://www.hot.ee/dukelupus/ConvertLIT.htm can be used to convert .lit files into generic format, which can then be converted into MobiPocket format using the Mobi Publisher I mentioned above. It takes about a minute or less to convert any .lit eBook into a .prc (MobiPocket) format eBook. Of course MSReader is free for the JAM anyway if you prefer that application... So, you have access to hundreds and hundreds of free eBooks, all of which can be converted easily and for free into Mobi Pocket format and read using Mobi Pocket which is free. Pretty cool stuff! Hope that helps! Blakey

I dont think there is an updated firmware for the Imate yet.

Guest Chaser81 Posted January 25, 2005 Report Posted January 25, 2005 (edited) Bluetooth Activesync? I use this as a short range "WiFi" solution to share my PCs broadband connection with my Jam (saves on GPRS!) Edited January 25, 2005 by Chaser81
