problem using both bluetooth and usb

hey

i recently read teh excelent guide on usingbluetooth to activesynk my mobile to my pc and thats working great and everything. i am now having trupuble with my usb. i used to be able to just plug in my usb and it would pop up and recognise it and all but now when i plug it in nothing happens. im a little confused and im wondering if ther is an option i have missed somewhere in teh settings or somehting that i will have to change when i change my connection method.

also i am wondering is it really necessary to do this as if there aint much of a diference in speed between bluetooth and usb then i might as well only ever use usb and save myself the trouble of using wires.
