How do you like my C500 car holder/deskstand?

Hi to all,

I made a car holder from a car charger which was designed for a siemens S35.

I removed the interior ( voltage regulator, connector & speaker) and replaced it with the internals of a SPV C500 cigarette lighter socket charger, bought from te Orange shop for 14.95 euros.

First i tried to use any ordinary 5 Volt supply from another car charger to the mini-usb plug (with pin 1 +5V and pin 4 And 5 Gnd)(photo 1), but this still didn't work: after a few seconds the charging light on the C500 turned green and it would stop charging, hence i sacrified the original Orange car charger.

Turns out that the C500 fits nicely in this holder (see photos). It's held only in place by the mini-usb adapter, so in the car i have the holder tilted backwards in order to not let the C500 drop out. The three rubber plugs glued in place give the C500 just the right alignment for the mini usb plug. When fabricating, i just put the C500 in the holder with the plug connected, and then hot-glued the plug in place inside the holder.

You could make this a tablestand also, by just fabricating youre sync cable in place. I have a few more photo's if you're interested.

I've butchered my old SPV E100 cradle and replaced the USB cable with a Mini USB one... I've attached some photos of it.

Apologies for the really poor quality, I've used my old crappy webcam.

Hi, i just made this car holder for myself, i do not plan to mass produce them and ship them. :| However, maybe i should start my own business :D

The original holder i used were generally for sale for about 25 euro's / $30 in our local hardware stores. When a phone becomes obsolete, they drop in price rapidly. Maybe you can find a used one through Ebay for example. The one i used is meant for a Siemens S25-S35-M35, they were sold in large amounts over here in the Netherlands. By coincidence, it's a perfect fit for the C500. With a bit Do-It-Yourself skills, it isn't that difficult to make. I think it's fun to make these things stuff out of old unused stuff.

word of caution if you try to convert a e100 cradle for the c500, using the mini sd adaptor that is inside the e100 cradle on the c500 will short out your usb port!!
