Guest the_boy Posted January 24, 2005 Report Posted January 24, 2005 I know this has been asked a LOT of times and I want to apologise now for this thread but this is my first phone and I'm a bit worried about fooking it up  I've seen loads of comments stating the only way to do it is to connect to the Internet, go to the Orange developers website and select the disable certifications etc etc Now I don't really want to do this as I want to keep my call charges to a minimum, especially since you have to connect to the Internet with the phone in the first place to get it to work. I cam across Gears tip on the CoolSmartPhonewebsite about copying a few files across etc and placing several in the temp folder and running the shortcut This article was dated a long time ago and even though it states to be used to the SPV I have my doubts. Has anyone tried this method for the SPV c500 and does it work? Thanks in advance 8)
Guest squall Posted January 24, 2005 Report Posted January 24, 2005 that no longer works im afraid! however rather than connecting to the internet when using the ota method you can put the phone in the cradle and use your pc's internet (setting phone to pass through internet or automatic) this way there are no charges :D
Guest the_boy Posted January 24, 2005 Report Posted January 24, 2005 Appreciate the mega fast reponse, I think I see where you are coming from... So if I have the phone plugged into my PC via USB and ActiveSynch set to pass through (The Internet) Then I just open IE on the phone and select a webpage. It will use my PC rather than the phone? yeah? Go to the Orange website and follow the instructions. And it's free?
Guest the_boy Posted January 24, 2005 Report Posted January 24, 2005 And click Start Settings Other Data Connections Change Internet Connection to "pass through connection" Click Done a few times.... So I've updated the phone and updated ActiveSynch. Anything I've missed?
Guest squall Posted January 24, 2005 Report Posted January 24, 2005 http://developer.orangews.com/orgspv/comdefq.aspx yes thats correct! As i said you may need to change default connection to automatic or pass through, just make sure it doesnt display a g on the signal bar when you try to open the internet! if it does hold the home button, disconnect gprs then check the internet options in settings
Guest the_boy Posted January 24, 2005 Report Posted January 24, 2005 Any other method to do this Ian? I hold the home page button down Screen pops up stating: 1. Disconnect GPRS 2. Bluetooth Setup Number 1 is highlighted so I hit the Select button I get the new annoying egg timer which takes me back to the home page But I'm still seeing the white square with the G in it at the top :?:
Guest qwiki Posted January 25, 2005 Report Posted January 25, 2005 The white square with the G in it just means that the phone has connected to a GPRS capable service. It does not mean GPRS is active. Look at the signal meter in the top right corner (The antenna and vertical bars). If it has a smaller G overlaid on it, then you are connected to GPRS, so disconnect as already mentioned.
