VPN on Smartphone 2003

So 2 questions here. If anyone can answer either then greatly appreciated

1. How can I initiate a GPRS connection on my phone without opening MSN Messenger or Internet Explorer. Basically a way of 'dialling up' on my Smartphone without the need of an application to kick start the dial sequence. A nice dial up utility would be good?

2. I have created a vpn connection on my smartphone to connect to my office network, but again, how do I actually initiate the vpn connection? I can't find a 'dial' for that either?!

You have to make sure that the APN being used allows a VPN connection.
