There have been a several different clients to aid mobile content providers access mobiles directly, none of which have been much good.

The latest attempt to break this market comes from Silk, and is aimed at hardware manufacturers, network operators and content providers.

Silk allows media content, premium network services, handset functionality, and customer services to be integrated into one seamless user experience. This ensures that your mobile services are delivered to customers’ handsets in a controlled environment that can be created, updated, and managed remotely.

Silk was used to build Orange Help and create a branded environment that provides a means for Orange customers to own the whole device experience from first startup. This innovative solution is the first implementation of on-device help supplied by a network operator.

Orange Help was designed to retain Orange brand values and be as user-friendly as possible. A number of key issues had to be addressed using Orange Help including content updateability, standardisation across multiple platforms, and device constraints including memory, processing power and integration.
