Guest sixonenine619 Posted January 31, 2005 Report Posted January 31, 2005 I'm about to buy a new phone. The last phone I had was a Spv e200. I must say i was quite happy with it, even though it froze from time to time and had other minor problems. Well I broke it, so i'm looking for a replacement. My choices seems to be a c500, Sp3i, or a i-mate jam. The jam does cost quite a bit more.... so i'm here wondering what people have to say about these phones. I'm sure there are people here that have owned all three and can compare them for me. I've heard the jam doesnt have ringer id,s (phone plays different tunes for different people) can anyone tell me if this is true? Does the jam have media player 10? Do you think the jam is really worth the extra money? (almost twice as much) Thanks in advanced guys.... and girls :D
Guest Chaser81 Posted January 31, 2005 Report Posted January 31, 2005 I have an I-Mate Jam, which I bought on Vodafone contract, and I can honestly say that this thing ROCKS! Before I had the Jam, I had the SPV C500, and although that was good (I did like it a lot), its not a patch on the Jam. I have always liked Pocket PC as an OS, but previously the phone edition handsets were always massive. The Jam, however, is comparable size to the C500 and e200 (its wider but the same height and is actually thinner than the e200!). If it was me, I would say buy the Jam, you wont be dissappointed. As for your other questions, yes it has Windows Media Player 10 and although there is no built in support for assigning ringtones to contacts (through the contacts app like the C500), there IS support via the included Imate Photo Contacts application which allows you to assign photos to contacts AND ringtones, and works just as well.
Guest Disco Stu Posted January 31, 2005 Report Posted January 31, 2005 What he said :D The only drawback with the Jam is losing the standard one-handed operation of the Smartphone.
Guest Chaser81 Posted January 31, 2005 Report Posted January 31, 2005 Yeah, texting is a bit slow on it compared to the C500, but I think everyone who has the Jam has kind of come to terms with that now, right?
Guest sixonenine619 Posted January 31, 2005 Report Posted January 31, 2005 Thanks for the replies... How good would you rate the camera? i know its a 1.3 mega pix but are they actually good enough to print 4x6's from?
Guest sixonenine619 Posted January 31, 2005 Report Posted January 31, 2005 heh oh i forgot.... You said the jam is slow for texting... I do alot of texting actually. Is there any programs out that make it easier/faster to text with?
Guest Chaser81 Posted January 31, 2005 Report Posted January 31, 2005 The camera sucks. IMHO its the Jam's only downfall. Whilst its fine in bright conditions, if there is even slightly dimmer light it falls to pieces. The C500's camera is miles better actually I found in darker conditions! As for the texting issue, it IS slower to text with one handed, but if you use the stylus and T9 together you can actually get quite fast with it.
Guest Disco Stu Posted January 31, 2005 Report Posted January 31, 2005 Again I agree though I'm hoping to master the handwriting recognition method for added speed !
Guest sixonenine619 Posted January 31, 2005 Report Posted January 31, 2005 Ahhhh, decisions decisions. I still cant make up my mind. I like the look of the jam alot better, and the screen size is also nice. But its near the 700$ price range. Heh im not so sure if i can invest that much. I need to be absolutely sure. I hear people talking alot about all the cool stuff the jam does, but how would you rate it as a phone? signal clearity and so forth? Thanks again
Guest Disco Stu Posted January 31, 2005 Report Posted January 31, 2005 The signal clarity seems fine but the quality of the speaker could be better
Guest sixonenine619 Posted February 1, 2005 Report Posted February 1, 2005 heh being that i'm retarded, i dont know the difference between windows mobile pocket pc and windows mobily for smartphones. Can the PPC run the same programs as my E200 could? or do i have to buy new ones? Is PPC better than the smartphone version? Thanks again
Guest Disco Stu Posted February 1, 2005 Report Posted February 1, 2005 There are equivalents for most Smartphone titles but you'll need to buy the PPC versions for the Jam. The only exceptions that I know of are Muff's SPVInvaders & SPVMan games, both of which are free for download on this forum. The big difference between the 2 platforms is thumb vs. stylus control which is why usually the software is not cross-compatible. Are PPC versions better ? Try the new Virtual Pool Mobile release - OMG  8) :D :D :P
Guest Chaser81 Posted February 1, 2005 Report Posted February 1, 2005 Virtual Pool on the PPC?? My dreams have come true!!
Guest sixonenine619 Posted February 2, 2005 Report Posted February 2, 2005 Wow, you guys played the Age of empires for the Pocket pc? Thats just beautiful. I think im sold on the Jam, now i just need to find some cash, or a cheap place that sells them :D
