Smartnes sav file problems on audiovox 5600

i downloaded smartnes 1.2 on my audiovox 5600, and i also downloaded Zelda.nes when i play the game the first time it runs fine, but then when i go to run it after ive saved and quit i get a blank screen. i can hear the music in the backgorund so i know its running but i cant see anything! i know its also something to do wtiht the .sav files because when i delete them i can play the game again. anyways if anyone out there could pleeassseeee help me that would be greatly appreciated!
