Guest misa.dlouhy Posted February 5, 2005 Report Posted February 5, 2005 (edited) Hi. I've read an article about charging SPV (Canary) Here on MoDaCo and i would like to ask, if someone has tried iSun's solar panel and battpack with C500. How do you charge your Smartphone while outdoors? Thank you for your answers.. Michal Edited February 5, 2005 by misa.dlouhy
Guest mcwarre Posted February 5, 2005 Report Posted February 5, 2005 I haven't tried this one but another charger I had which was fine with other phones had problems with the C500 due to current requirements....

I would also like to know if there is something that works with the C500.. TKJ
Guest misa.dlouhy Posted February 9, 2005 Report Posted February 9, 2005 I have asked the question on iSun's Bulletin Board http://207.142.134.194/bbs/YaBB/YaBB.pl?bo...&num=1107967290 and now i hope, there will be possitive reply. One more thing - i don't know if i will formulate it in english well, but, one czech fan made portable charger for his Motorola MPX200 from 4 AA batteries. He says that it is simple. Then, if you have Solar charger for AA batteries - like Caddy, on bottom of the page.. you can charge your SPV easily.
Guest Disco Stu Posted February 9, 2005 Report Posted February 9, 2005 This is no help of course, but for information's sake here is the SPV battery extender at SmartphoneAddons. Note that it doesn't work with the MPx200 or the E200 / C500  http://www.marketworks.com/storefrontprofi...2622&i=15696426
Guest misa.dlouhy Posted February 10, 2005 Report Posted February 10, 2005 (edited) I've got it! For charging SPV C500 "outdoors" you can use THIS USB battery extender included in Orange SPV C500 mini travel Kit Plus. With it, and solar battery charger, f.e. like the one mentioned above, you can charge your SPV C500 with 4 AA batteries  God bless you  .. PS if you know about another site, where can you buy this mini travel kit plus, let us know here. -- BUT: This kit seems to be very similar to O2 Xda Xda Ii - Travel Kit Plus. I have carefully checked the cables and this battery extender seems to have USB ouput. On that add-ons page they say, that you should use this battery extender with USB hotsync & charge cable, but how can i connect USB (on extender) to USB (on cable)? Maybe the extender has FEMALE USB output in which you can just plug in your common SPV C500 cable. In that case, you could buy somewhere :?: just this extender an you will be :( . Guest misa.dlouhy Posted February 10, 2005 Report Posted February 10, 2005 (edited) ..and email about Charging directly from Solar panels from Graham Morfitt, www.modernoutpost.com: Hi Michal, Thank you for your inquiry. The iSun has all sorts of charger adaptor plugs, but in the event that one does not fit, you can always use the cigarette lighter socket provided with the iSun, and then use the car adaptor you can get for your phone. The Brunton SolarPort 4.4 offers both a cigarette lighter socket, and a USB power port.. The iSun will charge your phone from a completely discharged state in approximately 7 hours. The SolarPort will take a little less than 4. If your phone is not fully discharged (as is usually the case) these times will be shorter by 1-2 hours. Certainly talk time will be extended, and you can use the phone while connected to the panels (the iSun comes with suction cups to attach it to a window). Either panel will work well, and we recommend using your phone's car adaptor solution for the simple reason that if the required charging voltage for your phone is different than what the panel puts out, the phone's car adaptor will regulate it to the proper voltage. This will protect your phone. I hope that this helps. Please let me know if we can be of service. Best regards.. - http://www.modernoutpost.com/gear/solar.html (note: this doesn't say, if any of them will work with SPV C500, or does it?) Edited February 10, 2005 by misa.dlouhy

In fact it'll work for anything with an in car charger, so phone, laptop, shaver, one of those little kettle things reps have.......
Guest misa.dlouhy Posted February 10, 2005 Report Posted February 10, 2005 (edited) That is perfect! You can read This handy reply from Anthony on his iSun's Bulletin board, which says, that (although Smartphones were not tested with iSun's Solar panels and may require additional panel /you can connect them together easily/ to recharge your phone's battery) you can charge your Smartphone with them without worries through your car adaptor. There is also FLEXible solar panel avilable, for further information visit please that Bulletin board's article. Good luck "on the road" Michal Edited February 11, 2005 by misa.dlouhy
Guest misa.dlouhy Posted February 11, 2005 Report Posted February 11, 2005 (edited) So the choices I know are: iSun with Battpack, Brunton's SolarPort 4.4 and maybe this small Wagan's e-power charger (product page) - if it will be enough for C500's battery and have car adapter connection (it's only 6V). Those flexible solar panels are much more expensive.. and of course, there is that USB battery extender available in SPV C500 mini travel Kit Plus, which can cost together with this Czech simple solar AA batteries charger a few pennies. -- One last thing: will it take more than one iSun Solar panel to charge your SPV C500? ISun's wattage is 2.2W, what is the wattage of C500 battery? Edited February 11, 2005 by misa.dlouhy
