Persistant New Media Player Skin After Power Off!

Hi,

Just thought I would let everyone else in on this nice trick I did now that we can run un-certified apps on our SPV's.

Everyone has probably seen the extended Media Player skin available that

gives you a larger video playback area. The only problem is that the skin is

no longer there after you have turned your phone off and back on again

because the files have to reside in "Windows". How annoying! Fortunately

this can be worked around now. This is how to do it...

1.) Unlock your phone so that you can run un-certified applications. (The

method where you edit the XML files DOES WORK! [uK phones too] )

2.) Copy the Media Player skin (See other post in this forum) to a directory either under "IPSM" or on your SD card. (For this example we will use "Storage CardMy

DocumentsmediaSkin")

3.) Install "PHM Registry Editor". (This can be found at

4.) Run PHM Registry Editor and goto " HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / Software /

Microsoft / Windows Media Player 8 / Parameters " and change the "SkinDir"

value so that it reflects where you placed the skin files. ("Storage

CardMy DocumentsmediaSkin" in our case)

That's it!!!

The Media Player will always have the new skin now (Even after a power

down). Only a hard reset will remove the settings.

Hope that helps some people!

Thanks to all the people who worked on removing certification requirement.

Now the fun can really start! ;-)

Cheers

Good work on this solution... top notch. I was thinking some dodgy app that would copy the files in each time on startup but this is NICE

I like to do my bit! ;-)

Im off to write some apps for the SPV now... (Freeware of course)

Will post em when done.

Dont ask me what yet coz I dunno...

was thinking about a notepade clone, a task manager would be nice (MyTools doesnt seem to run correctly) and a FREE explorer like file manager... all things that should have been standard.

Any ideas?!?!?

One quick note.... you need a backslash at the end of the path that points to the enw skin file(s).

Thanks

Hi all, did you notice in the reg that there were some keys for full screen, max width/height etc. Just wondered if anything could be done for them, any ideas guys? ;)

Had a quick look at them...

I tried changing the colour depth for WMP8 and nothing happened. :-(

Full screen seems to be enabled by default ('1') but changing it had no effect on my phone.

Max Width = 240

Max Height = 180

Stange this........ shouldnt they be the other way around?!? or can WMP8 play video on its side? (I.e. trully fullscreen)

Things like fit width are enabled by default. Changing these doesnt seem to have an effect either.

I will look into this a bit more but i dont think it uses all the keys that are present in the registry.

Obviously in the future when there are updates or plug ins to add to media player or new video software you will be able to flip the mode to whichever way you want.

Now that will be nice...

Yes telnet, i NEED telnet!

Oh and winamp would be way cool on the SPV. It would be nice to see some simple graphic equaliser plugins for WMP aswell.

And whilst your at it. Can you sort out the codec so that the SPV can properly play .mid polyphonic ringtones?

Thats my list ;)

One thing at a time! :-)

I will do my best in what spare time I have...

I think the idea of polyphonic midi would be nice! :-)

Try going through the unlocking process again. It sounds like it wasnt fully successful.

Im not 100% sure about this but theres 2 files you edit. Prehaps only one file managed to get copied in time.

Try it again.

Hop that helps.

Where was it posted?? Cuz I can find out how to do it. Which file to edit, and what do I edit??

Feeling a little stupid asking, cuz everybody else could! :?

Hi this is my first posting in this forum so forgive the obvious.

I have read and tried to adhere to the instructions of the site and search with no result.

Everyone has probably seen the extended Media Player skin available that gives you a larger video playback area. (sorry I haven't i've read for 6 hours the messeges on the site in hope of finding out where you can get it)

I've seen the links to new homepages and games but never this now i may have missed it but do i have to be one of the elite to get it?

I want to jion in with you inteligent people, I have tried a lot of the stuff out you suggest and most of it works so I know you are good people.

Help a newbie out here please then the process of unlocking of my phone will have its first result.

I have installed the Regeditor but when I try to run it it says

Error

"regedit" is not a valid Windows CE application

Why is this?

Posted

The installer's screwed it installs the wrong one. Install the cab directly on your phone and run it. There are some other threads talking about this, but I can't find them...

These are a part of the MediaPlayer skin, rather than something that would be on the phone's registry.

Full instructions on how to edit a skin can be found here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default....ml/wmpcesdk.asp (It can seem a bit complicated though, as it seems to be mainly aimed at Palm, pocket PC's etc.)
