Guest inferno133 Posted February 6, 2005 Report Posted February 6, 2005 Hi guys Long time lurker, first time poster. Gone from a SPV 200 to a 500 just before xmas. Bought it off the net on Orange PAYG. Gave the Orange sim to a friend of a friend as I wanted to use my O2 PAYG sim (the 300 free texts etc one) in it. Everything was fine till today when it fell off the bed onto the wooden floor and when I picked it up the screen part of the front facia is cracked top to bottom, the actual LCD screen itself is fine and untouched but 1) it looks terrible & 2) very hard to read text etc. Also worried water etc may get in through the crack and damage the LCD screen or circuitry generally. As it was bought PAYG I'm not covered on insurance and to be fair its cosmetic damage so it would be chargeable anyway. I'm quite happy to pay to have it repaired but I'm unsure the best way to proceed and would REALLY appreciate some advice of you guys. Ive been to carphone warehouse who said IF they could repair it would be around £30 and take 3 weeks as they would have to outsource it, they said best to go through Orange. Local market phone shop said same. Waited in a queue in the Orange Shop for half an hour, no staff around, gave up there. Rang the place I had it from, they said theyd ring me back Monday and let me know if they have spares available to repair it, if they don't, go through Orange. Rang orange, havent got an Orange phone number so couldnt get past the PAYG menu, spoke to someone on the contract side who was helpful as she could be. She said said, phone Orange SPV on monday see what they say, theyre open 9-5.53 (very precise opening times! LOL). As say, would really appreciate what to do next, and what sort of time scale I would be looking at for it being away, with Orange SPV for example, if someone has dealt with them and will they repair cosmetic damage like this. Are the parts even available yet? I'm ssuming its the complete front facia needs replacing (like when you change the whole front cover on nokia phones)? Any help etc.. Heather x
