TomTom bluetooth stolen - Need help :(

I had my car broken into a couple of weeks ago and I stupidly left my TomTom GPS receiver and my Bluetooth handsfree speaker phone in the car, both were stolen

I have now however after many recommendations bought a Fortuna Clip-On device, it was more expensive than a replacement TomTom receiver but at the time it was the only one I could find in stock I was also assured it would work with TomTom Mobile...

I have paired the Fortuna with my phone (SPV E200) and it is listed as "Clip-On BT GPS", the green satellite LED lights up on the receiver but when I run TomTom it just says GPS Signal Lost?? are there further steps I need to take or is it just not compatible with TomTom??

I also visited the TomTom website but there isn't really any relevant information and no-one replied to my support request.. their customer support is quite shocking to be honest..

Many thanks for any help and/or advice.

hello

you could try renaming it from Clip-On BT GPS to TomTom Wireless GPS

this might help

Hi Boarder, Does TomTom look for Bluetooth devices of that name by default then???

I will give it a try, thank you very much!

P.S. Anyone know how I do this?? I only just about managed to get the original GPS working and I didnt have to rename anything :(

Follow the guide on the first page of the TomTom review in this section.

With most GPS units you not not pair the device, let TomTom do it for you otherwise you may not be able to connect the fortuna clip-on.

I have seen it working with one of these units so I know it can work.

I've got my spv c500 working with a Holux GPS - much better reception over the TomTom unit, and the batteries last longer. I've also heard good things about the fortuna clip-on, so it's preferable over the TomTom.

Your TomTom unit identifies itself over Bluetooth as 'TomTom Wireless GPS' by default - it's this name that TomTom mobile usually looks for. Once you've paired your alternative receiver with your phone, rename the bluetooth device to 'TomTom Wireless GPS', fire up TomTom and see what happens.

My Holux goes from 'looking for connection' to 'connection established' when TomTom fires up. My TomTom reports 'The GPS signal was lost' until my Holux establishes its position.

You need to confirm wether you are getting No GPRS or Lost Signal

these are two big differences.

While the fortuna is a good unit I personally found the TomTom's own GPS more reliable.

Hopefully the holux BT is better than their CF counterpart as the CF card I have used in the past with the PDA version constantly kept dropping it's signal.

I have tried this but to no avail, the original GPS reciever did not require me to do anything I just picked it up and then asked me to enter the pin number.. :(

It says The GPS signal was lost X:XX seconds ago :D

p.s. does anyone know if the hard wired reciever will work with the E200? I've also got TomTom navigator for the XDA, the plug looks identicle to the E200 but im a bit dubious about plugging it in, incase I damage either.. could get expensive!

Cheers for all the help, hopefully I'll get the bloody thing working again some time, its all seeming a big waste of money at the moment.. doh!

Cus, how did you make it work? Any chance you could post a guide, pls?

I've got Holux GR-231 and struggle to get it work.

Thanks a million!

Can you explain in more details what you did to make it work? I use a fortuna clip-on gps receiver on my SPV E200 with TomTom Mobile 4.430 (3130), GPS driver 1.20 and I can't make it work. I tried with a real TomTom Wireless GPS receiver and TomTom Mobile worked fine immediately, grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

It's available on TomTom's website which is also linked to in the TomTom review.

If you have the proper TomTom GPS unit why use another? I hve found the TomTom GPS was more reliable than the Fortuna clipon.

btw you do not need to post all the above quotes as seperate posts.
