Hi Peeps,

I defected some time ago from my MPx200 to SE P900 and am well pleased with the P900 but it's now getting low on memory for all the apps I have. I am due a new contract and wanted an experienced opinion (Paul?) from you guys as to which will be best- the MDA Compact family or the SE P910 (which has more memory). I know I can use a wi-fi card with the compact but anything else (cam excluded) to win me over?

The audio is really awful on the Jam/MDA compact. I've had mine a month now and to be honest you can actually get hearing damage from the high notes being so uncontrolled.

I've only just got my MDA compact, but it is definitely worth it, and a much better piece of kit than the P910. I think that anyone who chooses the P910 over the Compact has got to be a little loopy.

The MDA Compact is much faster, more powerful, has a much wider range of applications available than the P910, it integrates with your desktop pc a whole lot better, it supports much larger memory cards than the P910, the camera in my opinion is better too, the size is unbelievable, it looks a lot nicer than the P910, overall the usability is just a damn lot better than the P910. For me...the MDA Compact would win any day over any other phone currently available.

I had a P900 before I got my C500 and then The Imate Jam, so I am familiar with the operation of both OS types. I enjoyed my P900, to be honest, and it did almost everything I asked of it. Whilst it made a fantastic (if a little large) smartphone, as a PDA it came up wholly inadequate. The calender, contacts and notes applications are so light on features as to be practically unusable for anyone with an even slightly complex Outlook setup, and the built in Web browser was rubbish. For the P910, SonyEricsson improved little in my opinion, which is why when my upgrade became due, I jumped ship. Yeah, they have expanded the memory, and yes they have (finally) added Duo Pro support, Push email access and a better browser, but to be honest, these are things that could have been done on a P900 with a firmware update (obviously apart from the memory update). I was really disappointed when the P910 was announced, it just didnt seem like enough of an upgrade to justify the change.

The Imate Jam, however, is a different kettle of fish all together. Its a PDA. A proper one. Not only that, it doesnt run an OS which is new and relatively fringe which means there is a TON of software support already there for you to use. It has a 416Mhz processor which is miles faster than the P910, and it has the same 64MB of memory with support for SD cards instead of Sony's proprietory memory format (more widely available and used means cheaper!). The camera on the Jam is its only real weakness (being completely rubbish), and the in-call volume at loudest setting sometimes sounds tinny, but to be honest, if you have the volume that loud you wont notice cause your ears will start to bleed!!

For me, trying to be as unbiased as possible here, the P910 doesnt even CONTEND. On every level save the camera the Imate Jam kicks it ass, and does it in style whilst still remaining as small as the P910!!

Go buy one, you know you want to, there really is no debate on this one, and everyone on here with a Jam will tell you the same.

I actually have both a P910i and a Jam (Orange wanted me to review the P910i for them).

Simply put, the P910i is awful. The UIQ OS is still a jumble, the qwerty keyboard is (IMHO) good as useless and, well, it's a brick.

I gave the P910i one day of my time, and now i've given it to a colleague to review, I'll never use it again...

Audio OK on my Jam too btw (although I have heard complaints, and people say the MDA Compact ROM is better), but a new iMate ROM is imminent...

Love my jam to bits but must admit the sound on mine can get really bad on the high notes.

If anyone lifts their voice to high in conversation the speaker sounds like it's going to pop.

Solution..........turn it down ;-)

It's one bad grain of sand on a mile of golden sand dunes :-)

...when the P10 arrived on my doorstep, I looked at it next to the P900 and thought 'Plastic Brick', I charged it, sync'ed it used it once and sent it back...

...when the Jam arrived on my doorstep, I went 'Ooooooohhhhhhhh',I changed trousers, charged it, sync'ed it, (put the first post in this part of the forum), and am still loving it!!!
